The Power of Parents, Talk to Your Kids! #PowerofParents

08.14.2014 by Girl on Fire // 1 Comment

Sometimes we are so blinded by things going on in the outside world, that we may not be aware of things happening right under our noses.  I’ll start this by saying we have zero underage drinking happening here at our house.  We have always been open and honest with our kids about things and so far we are blessed with kids that are taking the high road.  This is the Power of Parents.  Talk to your kids.  MADD has a lot of great information to share with you.  Talking to your kids about these things is so important.  Don’t just assume they know. Check out this infographic about teen drinking. MADD Power of Parents

Open up and be honest.  Talk to your kids!  MADD developed its Power of Parents program and resources to help parents feel more confident about talking with their teens about the dangers of underage drinking.  As I see school heading back in session, now is the time to talk!  Check out MADD’s 30-minute Power of Parents workshops.  The workshops along with the free handbook, can help you to start the ongoing conversations with your children about underage drinking.  We as parents are the number one influence in their lives on their choice to drink.

I would love for you to join me at the #PowerOfParents Twitter party and workshop this afternoon (noon CT/1 p.m. ET)!  Be sure to join up!  There will be PRIZES!  The Motherhood has joined up with MADD to have this important Twitter party.  Prizes! The Motherhood will award five prizes to participants who answer trivia questions tweeted by @TheMotherhood25 correctly. Each prize includes a Power of Parents Handbook and a one-on-one session with a Certified Power of Parents Trainer. madd_PoP_Logo  This conversation has been sponsored by The Motherhood.  All opinions are my own.

It is so important to make kids aware and to keep an open line of communication. I have 2 kids still at home that are 18 and 11 and we have talks about stuff like this all time. It is pretty sad to know that the majority of the kids she knows do drink. I am very fortunate she does not. What’s worse is I find that a lot of parents of these kids do not even care. It’s nice to see that MADD developed its Power of Parents program.

Satisfy the Soda Craving with Cascade Ice!

Sometimes I just crave the fizzy sweetness of a soda.  I know it isn’t a good choice for me.  Over the years I have cut back a lot, however offer me a fountain coke and I usually wouldn’t turn it down.  Soda and other drinks like Lemonade can contain upwards of 38 grams of sugar. […]
