Wordless Wednesday, Denied

08.11.2010 by Girl on Fire // 15 Comments

So, I’m supposed to have this appointment with the new Neurologist a week from this coming Monday. They call and ask to move my appointment to this coming Monday instead. I told her no, that I had made it that far in advance so that I could get the money together for the appointment since I do not have insurance.

She says…they don’t take self pay…

Wonderful.  I guess us people with no health insurance don’t deserve to have medical care…even if we do pay cash up front.

I’m pissed off.  It isn’t fair at all to be turned away like that.  They take the cash up front before you even see the doctor, so what’s the problem?

What?!?!? You plan to pay them with cash before you even see the doctor, and they still won’t see you?! That is completely unacceptable and defies any kind of logic. I would be steaming mad if I were you. Heck, I’m steaming mad for you.

It make me very angry. This happened to me when I was diagnosed with the tumor as well. The hospital had referred me to a gynecologic oncologist because they thought it was cancer and they would not see me either because I had no insurance!!!

Man, does your newspaper have a ‘tell it to section’.
A section where the public can do a small editorial type review,
and are not charged by the newspaper to do so.
If they do, I would so be putting this medical practice/Doctor’s
name in there and blasting him and what they are doing.
I’d also contact the consumer protection or consumer complaint
dept. of various local TV stations in your area and see if they
would do a stint on the local news about your situation with
    this Doctor’s office.
Sometimes the squeeky wheel gets greased. So start squeeking
loud and clear in your local area where it can make a change
for you and for others in your community/city that are in the
    same boat.
I’m so sorry that this is one more thing to beat you down, but
fight back, and don’t take it. You’re your only advocate, unless
you have a relative that will take up the fight on your behalf.
Since, I know many relatives won’t, then even if you feel like
crap you’ll have to. The only other alternative is to start
calling around and asking neurologists in your area if they will
    take self pay, non-insured individuals.

I agree. I’d start running my big mouth to anyone who would listen. Your money is as green as the insurance company’s, and requires less paperwork. Most doctors these days actually prefer self pay because they know they’re getting their money, and they’re getting it that day. WTF?

Gorgeous pictures of the girls. I love your photography.

This is completely asinine. I could understand if you were trying to cut a deal with them, or wanted to pay on installments, but upfront!

I agree with Alison. I was going to say the same thing, that sucks.

We’ve self-paid appointments before with no problem. Why does that doctor have to be so difficult?

Is there another Neurologist you can go to? Where I live there is only one so you have no choice, but maybe there is more then one where you live?

That is just plain stupid. Especially because its less paperwork for them and “instant” payment.

That sucks. Having no insurance SUCKS big time. I know how you feel. I went to the dentist and need a root canal for a grand total of $1,045 out of pocket. Only good thing is the dentist is letting me pay payments otherwise I would be screwed big time and my tooth would be killing me.

I hope everything works out ok for you!
