Wings of Life on BLU-RAY! Free 25-page Educational Guide! #Homeschool

05.03.2013 by Girl on Fire // Leave a Comment

Spring has arrived and it is a great time to help your kids learn about nature and the changes that occur during Spring!  Disneynature has just released Wings of Life on BLU-RAY!  Wings of Life is a close up look at the spectacular world of butterflies, hummingbirds, bees and bats, and their life-sustaining collaboration with flowers.  It was directed by Louie Schwartzberg (“America’s Heart & Soul”) and narrated by Academy Award® winner Meryl Streep.wings of life

The movie is visually stunning!  Even wee ones that are too young to really grasp the concept of what is happening in nature, will be mesmerized watching this movie.  Older children will be so enthralled that they will not even realize it’s educational!  The best kind of education is the fun kind!

When asking my children what they liked best about the movie, the response was “All of it!”.  I tried to pull some specifics out of them and Lauren told me that the most interesting part to her was when they showed a flower trapping a bee and holding on to it to attach pollen to it’s back.  Something you have to witness to believe.  The way they capture these normally unseen moments amazes me!  By using multiple cameras, both time-lapse and high-speed cinematography and extreme patience, filmmakers shot on location in more than a dozen areas, ranging from the El Rosario Preserve in Michoacán, Mexico, to Organ Pipe Cactus National Monument Park in Arizona.

I also have a 25-page educational guide that you can get by clicking the banner below.  It was created by Disney’s Animal Kingdom Education Team, which introduces learners in grades 2–4 to the amazing and often unseen world of pollinators through science, math and art! Activity sheets, games and units of inquiry help curious young minds explore the plant and animal worlds as well as the many ways that humans depend on them.

ABOUT DISNEYNATURE

Disneynature was launched in April 2008. Its mission is to bring the world’s top nature filmmakers together to share a wide variety of wildlife stories on the big screen in order to engage, inspire and educate theatrical audiences everywhere. Walt Disney was a pioneer in wildlife filmmaking, producing 13 True-Life Adventure motion pictures between 1948 and 1960, which earned eight Academy Awards®. The first four Disneynature films, “Earth,” “Oceans,” “African Cats” and “Chimpanzee,” are four of the top five highest overall grossing feature-length nature films to date, with “Chimpanzee” garnering a record-breaking opening weekend for the genre. Disney’s commitment to conservation is a key pillar of the label and Disneynature films empower the audience to help make a difference. Through donations tied to opening-week attendance for all four films, Disneynature, through the Disney Worldwide Conservation Fund, has planted three million trees in Brazil’s Atlantic Forest, established 40,000 acres of marine protected area in The Bahamas, protected 65,000 acresof savanna in Kenya, protected 129,236 acres of wild chimpanzee habitat, educated 60,000 school children about chimpanzee conservation and cared for chimpanzees.
