Don’t Want To Spend The Holidays With A Runny Nose? Fix The Things That Are Making You Sick!

12.13.2018 by Girl on Fire // Leave a Comment

Christmas is right around the corner now, and most of us have a whole lot to catch up on before the big day arrives. We need to get the home ready to receive guests over the holidays. We need to make sure the kitchen has everything we need to prepare a Christmas dinner for the ages. We have to finish off those last minute bits of Christmas shopping and let’s not forget all those people we need to touch with before the new year.

Lauren Sick

Is it any surprise that so many of us find ourselves run down, exhausted and gasping for breath in the run-up to the holidays? More to the point, is it any surprise that so many of us find ourselves struck by seasonal illnesses over the holidays? With so much working against us, it’s easy to find your Christmas day mired by a cold and flu bug. If you want to take back your big day, now’s the time to fix the things that are making you sick…

Your air

If you’ll be using your home’s AC unit over the holidays, the air pumping through your home could be carrying more than the scent of a freshly baked turkey. If your AC unit is damaged or hasn’t been serviced in a long time you may well find that it has become a breeding ground for harmful bacteria and pathogens. Call an air condition repair specialist to ensure that the air blowing through your home is clean. You’ll be able to breathe a big sigh of relief afterward!

Your food

While you may be looking forward to a lavish Christmas dinner on the big day, you owe it to yourself to think hard about your diet in the runup to Christmas day. Many of us fall into one of two camps. We either decide mid-December that the rest of the year is a write-off and we’re going to eat whatever junk our heart desires, or we starve ourselves in preparation for some serious festive gluttony.

Neither approach will do your immune system any favors. You owe it to yourself to eat healthy food at least three times a day to keep your body strong, healthy and able to fight off illness. Try loading your plates with these immune-boosting foods.

Your drink

All too often we can take out Christmas spirit from a bottle, and while there’s nothing inherently wrong with enjoying a snifter of your favorite boozy beverages over the holidays, it’s important to give yourself the gift of moderation. Aside from the obvious stuff like hangovers, guilt, regrets and a mouth that feels like it’s coated with sandpaper in the morning, excessive drinking can seriously wear down your immune system.

Your job

If you’ll be packing in as many hours as humanly possible over the holidays so that you can enjoy some seasonal spending it’s important to know your limits. It’s a well-known fact that excessive stress at work is a huge contributor to a weak immune system.

While nobody’s suggesting you quit your job, you should still take steps to reduce stress like exercising in your lunch break (even if it’s just a brisk walk) or taking a few minutes aside for some mindfulness meditation.

Look after yourself now and you’ll enjoy a snotty hankie free Christmas later!

Wordless Wednesday

I still remember how much fun this stuff was as a kid! This was taken on the 4th of July.  There are a whole bunch of Arnold girls!  I’m not gonna try to make myself count them all right now, because I am still on my first cup of coffee.  I want to say there […]
