Ways to Boost Fertility

Having sex does not always lead to pregnancy. There are many other factors that you should be aware of if you are trying to conceive.

Good Nutrition

What you eat can affect your fertility. Focus on including enough vitamin C, iron, protein, and zinc in your diet, as these are important for conceiving and carrying the baby full term. If you aren’t able to get enough from the food you eat, make sure you are taking a high quality supplement.

Control Your Weight

Being overweight or underweight can disturb ovulation. If you carry too much body fat, the body will actually produce too many hormones, which will cause you to ovulate less frequently. If you don’t have enough fat on your body, you won’t be producing the right amount of hormones that are needed to ovulate or maintain a pregnancy.

Stop Smoking

Everyone knows that smoking is bad, but if you are trying to get pregnant it is very important to quit. Cigarette toxins actually age the ovaries, and they cause damage to your eggs. This means that not only will you have trouble with fertilization, but the implantation process will be screwed up as well.

Keep Track of Your Cycle

Most menstrual cycles last around 25 to 35 days. Keep track of your cycle (the first day of your period is day one) for a couple of months, and if it is longer than normal, talk with your ob-gyn. When trying to get pregnant, you should have sex regularly during your fertile window, which includes the four days prior to, and the day of, ovulation. Because ovulation can occur anywhere from day 6 to day 21, you may want to take an ovulation test to find out when it occurs in your cycle.

Have Sex Frequently

While there is no question that sex is part of the equation when it comes to getting pregnant, there are other theories as to why you should have intercourse on a regular basis. Having sex at least weekly may help you produce higher levels of estrogen, and your reproductive system may be influenced by your man’s sex hormones. Around ovulation, you should try to have sex every 36 to 48 hours in order to improve your results.

Focus on Relaxation

High levels of stress will negatively affect your fertility. Cut back on heavy exercise, take yoga, meditate, or speak with a counselor in order to properly manage stress and keep your hormones balanced.

Drink Sparingly

While an occasional glass of wine shouldn’t hurt, consuming alcohol decreases your chances of getting pregnant. Caffeine should also be limited, as it can cause miscarriages.
