Craft Supplies For A Creative Life

04.06.2017 by Girl on Fire // Leave a Comment

When art and crafts are a big part of your day, whether for pleasure or as part of your homeschooling program it’s inevitable, along with the mess, that keeping the cupboard stocked with foam, cork, paper, string and all the other vital supplies needed is both a never ending and expensive task.  Craft Supplies For A Creative Life.

Buying in bulk from wholesale school supplies is a great way of saving money on the everyday items you might use.  It also ensures that you never run out at the crucial moment and risk the disappointment of having to leave a project unfinished.

If you’re new to the crafting scene it can be difficult to know what to buy and what to leave.  Buy too much and you have a lot of products not being used and taking up space. However as inspiration often comes when you’re not at the craft store you can’t rely on paying as you go either.  If all of this seems a little much to take in here is a handy guide to craft cupboard essentials which should see you through all of your creative moments.

Craft blanks and bases

This can be anything from boxes and bags to polystyrene and wooden lettering and shapes. These are the workhorses of your creativity, the object into which you pour your creative mind so make sure you keep a varied selection to hand.  Natural bases and shapes found in nature can also spark the imagination so don’t restrict it to what you can purchase – experiment and your creative projects will be better for it.

Decoration and finishes

Paint, glitter, buttons, ribbons even shells and sand – the more elaborate and sparkly the better. To ensure all of these wonderful items stick to your base you will also need a wide range of glues and adhesives including PVA, glue sticks and even the wonderful glue gun, the muscle in your adhesive armory.

Craft tools

Scissors are of course the staple of the craft tool but you can also get a range of brushes, knives and cutting mats to ensure a more accurate and neat finish.  Handmade can equal polished with the right tools and practice.

Stationery

Pens, rulers, plain and colored paper; stationery is handy for even the smallest and mundane of household tasks. Anything can be made to look good with a bit of colored paper and some decoupage!

Storage boxes

OK so not technically a craft item but if you have spent a lot of time and money choosing the right materials or collecting inspiring items you want to make sure they are kept clean, tidy and safe. That is also true of your home. So if you are going to invest in crafting, a few handy storage boxes that can be stacked will be invaluable.

Of course, there is no end to what you can achieve with a little imagination and this is only a start.  The trick is to find arts and craft opportunities and potential in everyday life – whether it’s that walk along the beach or taking down the humble phone message, the world is yours to decorate. Have fun!
