When I was a kid I remember watching the original Dallas. I thought it was with my mom. Turns out I was wrong, that was Dynasty that my mom watched. Apparently it was my Grandma that I watched Dallas with. So anyhow, considering I live in the Dallas area now…this has to be a must see!
I was invited to the Dallas Red Carpet Premiere, it was SO fun! Staci from 7 on a Shoestring and I went together. Neither of us wanted to be late, so we were super early. That was great though, we had a lot of time to talk and get to know each other. We have quite a bit in common and I hope to attend some other events with her. So far we have had 2 within just a few weeks.
We met Michael M. Robin who is the Executive Producer of Dallas. He has also been the Executive Producer of The Closer, Nip/Tuck and many more shows!
When asked about the new Dallas, Michael said…
We spend a lot of our time making sure we keep Dallas authentic to itself. It’s been a real hallmark for us to makes sure we bring forward the series from the past. And not reinvent it but just sort of drop back in 18 years later and see how the Ewing clan is doing.
Next down the carpet was Jesse Metcalfe, a newcomer to Dallas. You may recognize him from Desperate Housewives as well as John Tucker Must Die. On Dallas he plays the role of Christopher Ewing.
Jesse was asked if he had any apprehension about stepping into a show that people have such a strong bond with. Jesse responded saying…
Yeah. Initially I had big apprehensions. I didn’t know if it was such a good idea to remake such an iconic show and such a show that was so quintessentially 80’s. I didn’t know how they were going to pull that off but once I read Cynthia Cidre’s pilot episode, and I saw how she bridged that gap, how it was a continuation, like the cameras won’t rolling for 20, 21 years, and how she set up all these amazing storylines in the pilot episode, and she wrote these rich, complex, dynamic characters, I was like, Yeah, this is something I definitely want to be a part of.
So how many of you remember Patrick Duffy as the dad on Step by Step? Ha! Patrick spent a lot of time on the Red Carpet chatting it up! It took him the longest to get down the line and when he finally made it to us we could certainly tell why. He is such a friendly man.
Patrick was asked how it felt to step back into Bobby’s skin after all this time? He said…
I don’t think I ever left Bobby’s skin all that much. By virtue of what I look like and the roles I get offered, it’s pretty much not the same part, but the same genre. Good guy, good father, now good grandfather, those kind of parts. So, to step back into Bobby was just finding the wardrobe and remembering how to get to Southfork Ranch, and, other than that, it was pretty easy.
He was also asked if he was ever involved with the “Dallas” movie. He quite humorously replied…
No, other than reading the script, and doing one of those cat with the fur ball things because it was so terrible. No, I was never considered for it at all. Thank, God!
Next down the carpet was one of the prettiest and nicest ladies…Brenda Strong! You may know her from Desperate Housewives or maybe even Starship Troopers!
Brenda was asked what it was like filming in Dallas, Texas. She replied…
I loved it. I wouldn’t have wanted to shoot this anywhere else. The city itself is another character. Southfork is a dream being able to shoot out on the land and feel like we’re part of the history there and a legacy. It’s great to be here and it’s nice to sort of seamlessly come in and out of the city and feel like we’re home. I literally, when I flew in, I felt like I was coming home. And I know that sounds strange but this has become home for me. I missed it. Glad I’m back!
Jordana Brewster is probably known best for her roles in The Fast and the Furious Movies.
Jordana was asked how it felt coming into a show that was so big in the 80’s, to which she had this to say…
You know, it’s not a remake, so I think it will be really cool for the audience to see like did Sue Ellen screw up the relationship with her son? How’s Larry doing with his son? What in the world are the kids up to? Because the original audience saw these little babies and these little kids and they’re probably wondering how did they turn out? They don’t know giving their upbringing. I think that’s really fun?
Now for the big man on the carpet…Larry Hagman! He totally gave me a fist bump. At first I was at a loss, until I realized that is what he was doing.
He was such a cool dude! Fun to talk to for sure. When asked what it feels like to be back on the set after 20-some odd years, he was quick to reply with…
Like a license to steal!
Is it exciting to be JR again? Are you as conniving as you were on the original series? Do you feel good in your skin?
God I hope so!
How many hats do you have?
Me personally? My wife kinda put ‘em away some place. A couple of hundred. We sold about 1,500 of them.
No one looks better in a hat than you!
Well, no one else wears them anymore!
There were plenty of other stars there! The rest of my photos will be up on Flickr and Loudmouth Photography on Facebook.
Be sure to catch the 2 Hour Series Premiere of Dallas tomorrow! Wednesday, June 13 at 9/8c on TNT!
