2016 Was NOT the Worst Year Ever

2016 Was NOT the Worst Year Ever

Everywhere I look all I see is people complaining about how 2016 was the worst year ever.  WORST.  Really people?  2016 is the worst year because some celebrities died?  Most of which you hadn’t even thought of in many years I am sure.  Most of which had abused drugs and alcohol for years.  Some of which were simply just old.  Do you expect celebrities to be immortal?  Some extra protection against bad choices or growing old?

Let’s think about this for a minute.  People died.  Ok.  Well, people die every day.  I tend to have more sadness and feelings about those that are suffering by no choice of their own.  Kids especially that have done nothing wrong, have made no bad choices to effect their life, yet they suffer and die every year.  Let’s shed some tears for them.  Or our armed forces that are giving up their lives for our country.

But worst year ever?  No.  Absolutely not.

1348  was called the year of the Black Death, you know…that thing called the Bubonic Plague.  Yea, that was a bad year….even went on for more than that one year.

Now, don’t get me wrong. I am sure there are individuals (many) that 2016 truly was the worst year ever for them.  I am sure people struggled more and lost more in their personal lives.  It happens, and sadly this is how life works.  I do hope this next year brings you more happiness.

For me, 2016 was a decent year.  I had a major accomplishment that I take great pride in.  I weaned off of every single medication that I was on for my RSD and depression.  I still have some detox symptoms from the last med.  Seems to be taking months for the antidepressant to get out of my system.  That alone makes 2016 a GREAT year in my eyes.

I found herbs that help me with my RSD and other autoimmune issues.  I continue to use essential oils and paired with herbs I am able to maintain a level of function that is better than the medications I have tried.  Am I pain-free?  Absolutely not, nor do I expect to be unless they suddenly find a cure for RSD.  Am I functioning better?  ABSOLUTELY without a doubt.

My oldest daughter reconnected with her dad and his family.

We gained a new family member named Greta.  Currently, she is 7 mo old and growing like a weed!  She is a beautiful Great Pyrenees puppy!

I successfully fostered 8 dogs this year!  2 of which are still here but are available for adoption.

These are really good things.

Was there bad stuff?  Of course.  A lot.  But I choose to focus on the good parts of 2016!  In fact, I’m not even going to blog about the bad and sad stuff in this post.

So I challenge you to find the good things that happened in the past year.  Every year has it’s good and bad, I just think as a society we tend to focus on the bad more than the good.

Everything you said is so true. You are always in so much pain and still push on. Nothing is ever gained by giving in and I applaud you for your will power. I have seen how bad your Good days are. I am so proud of you!
There have been many struggles this past year but we all are still here, I am doing what is needed, not to say it is easy, but you give me encouragement. Love, mom
