Since we live by the lake we have a lot of mosquitoes! In fact I have blogged about the Texan Skeeters before. They wait right at your door and attack as soon as you come out. It really bites {…hee hee…} because I hate using bug spray. So of course when I was asked to review the ThermaCELL Lantern I jumped on it.
First of the name ThermaCELL brought back awesome memories! Memories of my Camaro hair and my need of a butane powered curling iron! Heck ya! I was excited to see them still being sold! I took that baby everywhere in the early tween years!
First thing I noticed upon receiving it was that it was small and cute. I had pictured it being big. I kind of had my doubts on it’s small stature against these Texas beast mosquitoes.
According to tests conducted by the U.S. Government, ThermaCELL Mosquito Repellent hand-held devices and lanterns are both up to 98% effective in fighting mosquitoes, black flies and no-see-ums. ThermaCELL does not have an open flame and is EPA approved.
So we set this up on our back patio to give it a try. I have to say it really worked! It’s pretty cool that this little thing could keep those bugs away! Very impressive! Now I want to try the hand-held devices. I think it would be good for the boat.
How does ThermaCELL’s patented technology work?
ThermaCELL is powered by a butane cartridge which provides the cordless, portable heat to operate the device. A mat saturated with allethrin, a copy of a natural insecticide found in chrysanthemum flowers, is heated by the butane cartridge and vaporizes the repellent allowing it to rise into the air, creating a 15 x 15 ft (225 sq ft) “Mosquito-Free-Zone.”
You can buy ThermaCell Lantern’s at Home Depot and other outdoor and specialty stores.
I was sent a ThermaCELL Lantern to facilitate this review. No other compensation was received.
