Outdoor Home Improvements, What Do I Choose First?

07.11.2021 by Mattie Cook // Leave a Comment

I don’t know about y’all, but my house is just looking kind of blah to me lately. Now don’t get me wrong, I love my home and I have the interior decorated to my liking, but the outside has really been needing a facelift!

I have been making lists trying to decide exactly what I want to do, it’s really hard to narrow it down! I’m not really made of money so it needs to be something affordable and make a statement. I considered plants for a while, some nice bushes or even flowers! But you see… I have a black thumb sadly! Every time I buy a plant it ultimately withers away, I’m really not sure what I do to kill them and it makes me really sad. I couldn’t even keep a cactus alive!

So obviously plants are a no-go and I really don’t care for the look of fake plants. Fake plants can be really pretty, but I’ve noticed they tend to get dusty and I really don’t feel like having to add one more thing to my never-ending cleaning list!

I watch a lot of DIY and renovation shows, so I have lots of ideas! But it’s so hard to decide which one to choose! I’ve really been considering getting a deck built honestly! I want somewhere to sit and drink my coffee in the mornings before work. I remember growing up my grandma had an enclosed deck on the front of her house and it was so amazing! She had so many pretty plants and we’d sit out there together just listening to the birds sing.

I found this really cool decking company that’s actually pretty affordable and they even do light fixtures too! I am really leaning towards getting a deck built… I mean if I’m daydreaming about it on a regular basis, then I need it right?!

I found this article by Better Homes and Gardens with so many inspiring pics! I love looking at all the cool ideas people come up with! The before and after pictures have to be the coolest in my opinion. Starting off with a boring blank slate and turning it into something beautiful! Maybe if I ever decide on which project I want to do, I can send in before and after photos too!

I was also thinking maybe a fresh coat of paint could give the house a nice face-lift! But then the problem with that is, what color!? I did some research and I found out that Sherwin-Williams does free color consultations! They chat with you and help you choose the perfect color for your home! They even have digital paint swatches, so you don’t even have to leave your home!

So that being said, I have no idea which projects to choose currently. If y’all want to comment below and do a little vote maybe that would help me decide! Or even if you have some ideas for giving my home a makeover. I’m obviously very indecisive!
