5 Reasons to Move to Texas

06.18.2021 by Girl on Fire // Leave a Comment

Did you recently hear about the fact that so many people are leaving California and New York and are moving to Texas, as well as other Southern states?

Well, if you are on the fence and you are considering a move from a different state to Texas, then let me give you a big welcome and some more information on why living in this great state of Texas is awesome! Here are a few reasons to move to Texas:

A love of sports

If you are a football fan, you will love it here because if there is one thing Texans take more seriously than great BBQ, it is football! Between high school, college, and NFL football, there is no denying the game is a favorite pastime for Texans. In fact, during the fall season, weekends are often dedicated to watching football games.

Varsity high school football plays under the Friday night lights, Saturday is spent watching your (okay, maybe not your alma mater since you are not from TX, but you get what I am saying) alma mater compete for a top conference spot, and Sunday is reserved for the iconic NFL Sunday Night Football.

With a passion for the sport, football brings comradery between fellow fans and Texans alike. Aside from football, you will also find baseball lovers, hockey lovers, and basketball lovers. So if you have a passion for sports, you will definitely fit in here!

Southern hospitality

You may have heard about traditional southern hospitality, but experiencing it every day is a whole other story. Like most southern states, Texas is a place where residents exude politeness and friendliness, and that is why Texas is known as the friendship state.

In the Lone Star State, it is not uncommon to be greeted by strangers or smiled at by passersby. One thing is for certain, Texan southern hospitality is contagious and it is deeply rooted.

Great colleges for your kids

If you have kids that are soon off to college and you’d love for them to stay close, then Texas is a good call because it boasts more than 200 colleges and universities.

Two of the best universities in the United States can be found in Texas: The University of Texas at Austin and Texas A&M University.

Education experts also include the University of Houston and Texas Tech University in the list of those widely recognized as great universities in the state. There are quite a few really high-quality private schools, as well.

Taxes are lower than you would expect

Texas is among only a handful of states where there’s no personal income tax or state income tax. It’s also known as the fifth-lowest overall tax burden per capita in the country.

Sales tax is also relatively low comparatively…especially if you are coming from California or New York! However, there is one trade-off. Homeowners in Texas pay some of the highest property taxes in the country.

Things are spread out

Texas is booming, which is amazing, but one thing that you have to remember is that you will need a car. Cities are spread out and public transportation is not the best ever.

However, Austin, TX, is one of the best cities for remote workers and more and more TX-based businesses are going at least partially work-from-home.

While Austin isn’t one of my choices, there are many places in Texas where I would love to live. One place that I’m interested in checking out is Victoria. Such a beautiful area with so many local things to do. You can check out this resource guide for moving to Victoria, TX.

There are so many reasons to move to Texas and while I have not even touched the surface of this list, I hope that this shows you that there are so many reasons to move to Texas!

What I didn’t mention is that the food is great, the weather is (mostly) great, and there is so much land here. Plus, we focus on freedom and that is always a great thing.
