Before You Add Pizzazz to Your Home, Cover the Practical

02.17.2017 by Girl on Fire // Leave a Comment

Before you brighten your home, you need to make sure all the basics in your home are not only covered but covered well. Before you go splashing all of the cash you’ve put aside for improving and renovating your home on making it look aesthetically beautiful, you need to spend some money on making sure everything that you use every day in it works and is protected from wear and tear. Before you go for pizzazz, you have to go for practical — here are a few areas to target to do so.

Protect your home for when disaster strikes

You have to sufficiently safeguard your home from disasters at all times, because they can strike at all times. A few things you can do to do so is to protect against a frozen drain pipe by using the services of a company that provides internal freeze protection for pipe systems; protect your central heating system and boiler from rusting when they aren’t used during the warmer seasons by adding an inhibitor; and invest in a back up heat generator for when your CHS is broken.

Protect yourself for when disaster strikes

As previously mentioned, disasters can strike at any time, and sometimes they’re far more dangerous than a dodgy boiler or a frozen pipe. To give yourself the best possible protection from a fire breaking out in your home, make sure to check here. Investing in a fire alarm/smoke detector, and routinely checking that it is still working (and changing the batteries or it if it isn’t) is a basic way for you take the wellbeing of you and your family into your own hands. Another alarm that should be sought is a security alarm.

Cover the bathroom basics

Before you give your bathroom a new lease of life, you need to cover all the basics. because it’s a room that relies so heavily on necessities for human life, these necessities need to be in top working order. You know what this means: the toilet needs to flush properly, the taps needs to flow correctly and the shower needs to be strong enough; you need all of these to be able to maintain a good standard of life and would really feel the effects if they didn’t. And If you’re ever planning on converting the downstairs cupboard into a loo, there are a lot more things to remember than just sourcing a toilet, a sink and a shower. There are a whole host of things that must be done before you can even begin to put tiles on the walls and floor and start decorating it. You may need to have a door moved, or the ceiling raised in order to make it as practical as possible for everybody that is going to use it. You should seek professional assistance for the technical stuff, like valves, pipes, radiators, extractor fans and lights.

So, the moral of the story is: make sure the basics are covered before you start spending all of your money on making your home aesthetically beautiful. Once they are covered, by all means, let your creative flair run wild all over the house — but just make sure you ask the other half their opinion every now and again!
