Little Pim for Early Foreign Language

09.09.2010 by Girl on Fire // 1 Comment

This year school year the girls are working on learning Italian.  I love having the option to choose the languages my girls want to learn.  Our idea is to expose them to a little of everything and let them decide on what to pursue fluently.  Did you know that 80% of students in Europe speak at least two languages and every student in China is learning English?  Only 14% of U.S. students consider themselves bilingual.

Scientists have said that the earlier you start with another language the better. They say young minds can learn up to 3 languages easily!

We are using Little Pim: Eating and Drinking in Italian for our language course this year.  Emma seems to be picking it up the easiest and she is just 4 years old.  They really enjoy watching it and repeating and there is always a whole lot of giggling going on as they try to master the pronunciation!

Early foreign language immersion expert, Julia Pimsleur Levine (daughter of the famous language teaching pioneer, Dr. Paul Pimsleur), has created the Little Pim line of products to help seamlessly incorporate foreign languages into Preschool through Kindergarten/ Grade 1 classrooms.

Little Pim has Teacher Kits available as well in 10 languages. The kits include the DVDs (21 episodes, over 105 minutes of material), a plush panda, a poster, and a 24-page Teacher’s Guide that contains lesson plans and student worksheets for each episode.

You can find Little Pim on Amazon.  For more information please visit Little Pim on the web.

I was sent a sample copy of Little Pim: Eating and Drinking in Italian to facilitate my review.  No monetary compensation was received.

They definitely pick up another language more easily when they are young. I started signing with Livie when she was 6 months old and by age 2 she was able to recognize and sign tons of colors, all the letters, animals, toys, foods, etc… She was communicating so much more than other 2 year olds because they couldn’t talk yet and didn’t know another language.
That didn’t have a ton to do with your post. I just like bragging. haha
