I Hate Money #GenworthUSA

07.12.2013 by Girl on Fire // 3 Comments

I think the majority of people love money.  I am not one of those people.  I despise money and I really hate having to think about it.  But in this day and age I pretty much have no choice.  The majority of our life requires money.  Sad, but true.

I’ve never been good with money.  I mean I don’t blow it and go crazy spending, but I also don’t plan well.  I have no savings. I tried to have the whole emergency fund, I got part way there and guess what…there was an emergency.  Then there was another one and another and another.  The Emergency fund never had a chance.

I just recently read an article called Women and Money: Why You Need To Take Control.  It said that the biggest financial barrier for women is “We Lack Confidence“.  I can find a lot of truth in that.

That desire to flee from financial planning means we aren’t always as well-informed as we should be. “Many women think that since they don’t know the language, they can’t ask questions—or they worry that their questions sound dumb,” says O’Connor.

Another thing it said, “We Sweat the Small Stuff“.  Nail on the head…that is exactly it for me.    I stress a lot!!  I try so hard no to.  It makes it hard to plan things because I get so overwhelmed.  I do not know which way to turn, so I shut down.

“When they find themselves hitting up the sale racks, women need to remember that even the best deal they find is worth far less than a smart investment in their retirement fund,” says Eleanor Blayney, the president of the Washington, D.C.–based financial-advisory firm Directions for Women.

Genworth has a lot of resources to help me overcome my fear and stress about financial planning.  I’m nearly 40 and have nothing planned out.  If something happened to Jeremy I have no idea what I would do.  Maybe call my mom?  Sorry Mom, but you have it together and I totally don’t.  I’m working on it though.

How are you at financial planning and planning for your future?  Do stress like me, or is it easy breezy for you?  Do you have any advice for me?  Give me your best tips!  I need all the help I can get.

I hear from people that Dave Ramsey has a great plan. We don’t plan at this point, too many medical expenses with our 10 year old. Seems like every time we have a well laid plan, he needs another test or surgery, etc…. I would love to have a budget, stick to it & not worry about my bank account. I just have to pray & trust that God has us right where we are supposed to be – even if that means in the red some times 🙂 So, I’m with ya! I hate money!

You are so like your dad, except, you stress over it and he just does not care. Figures things will work out because they always have. Well, that is only because he has Never, I mean Never, looked at everyday living expenses. Not just food, gas etc, but utilities too. I mean, come on, do your think this stuff is free. Turn the hose on and let the water run all day long in the yard, going no where. Forget to turn off the air compressor in the garage for days. LOL The only way we have survived is because I have always paid Us, like a bill each month. When payday comes, all bills get paid and then what is left is what we use for food etc. If we do not have it, we cannot buy it. Not easy, but once you forget that that, pay yourself money is really not being used, then it will build. Even if it is just $5.00 a week.
We can work on it when we get there, because I love you and do not want you stressing. Makes your RSD worse.

I’m the one in our family who thinks and worries about money. It’s hard doing it yourself! But this was a good reminder that we need to start thinking about retirement savings!
