No matter where you live, you probably have an intersection in town that makes you nervous. Hopefully, you don’t have to battle these 6 most dangerous intersections in the U.S.
Pembroke Pines, Florida

When traveling through Pembroke Pines, Florida, avoid the intersection of Pines Boulevard and Flamingo Road. According to State Farm Insurance, it’s the most dangerous intersection in the country. During a two-year period, that intersection had 357 accidents. That’s an accident almost every other day.
An analyst from State Farm says that high traffic volume causes most of the accidents at this intersection. According to estimates, about 200,000 cars pass through the intersection daily. With all that traffic, it’s a miracle that more people don’t have accidents! Congestion makes people impatient, and that leads to impulsive behaviors that cause accidents.
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Philadelphia has two of the most dangerous intersections in the country. That’s a dubious honor, but the numbers don’t lie. The intersection of Red Lion Road and Roosevelt Boulevard had 331 accidents in a two-year span, putting it in close competition to Pembroke Pines.
Then there’s the intersection of Grant Avenue and Roosevelt Boulevard, where 261 accidents happened during the same period. It seems like there’s a lesson to be learned here: don’t drive down Roosevelt Boulevard.
Dallas, Texas
Dallas caught a lot of negative publicity for its dangerous intersections in the late 90s. Since then, the city has done a lot to make those areas safer. Still, you should pay close attention to these intersections when driving in Dallas.
In 1999, the intersection of Belt Line and Midway was the most dangerous intersection in the United States, mostly because so many people ran red lights. A lot of motorists also drove into the middle of the intersection when they had green lights but knew that the lights would turn red before they got through.
Other dangerous intersections include Belt Line Road and Preston in Dallas, with 241 accidents and Park Road and Preston Road in Plano, with 249 crashes. It’s funny how the same roads keep showing up.
Chicago, Illinois
Intersections involving more than two roads can create unimaginable chaos. Adding that extra road also makes it more difficult for city planners to find solutions to traffic problems. Such is the case in Chicago where Sony Island Avenue, South Chicago Avenue, and 79th Street all come together. To make matters even worse, the Chicago Skyway’s ramps hang overhead, making drivers anxious to get through the intersection as quickly as possible.
In 2010, 63 accidents were reported. That’s nothing compared to intersections in Dallas and Pembroke Pines; but, it’s still a major obstacle for drivers and pedestrians. 28 people were injured in those accidents.
Every city has an intersection that makes drivers sweat. What intersection do you dread most? Have you ever experienced any of the above intersections? Are they really as bad as they sound?
