Nature is great at clearing the mind and soothing the soul. However, after centuries of different civilizations clearing wildlands to make way for homes and skyscrapers, very little of the Earth as it originally was remains.

Many of the planet’s natural wonders are used in modern life, including for medicinal purposes. One of the hottest trends right now is using hemp extract for holistic use. CBD tincture can alleviate a wide variety of physical and mental issues, such as anxiety or headaches.
What is Re-Wilding?
The basic tenet of re-wilding is restoring vegetation and animals that either went extinct or moved on to greener pastures. The idea of re-wilding is not a new idea, but it is gaining mainstream attraction after the success of New York City’s The High Line, which converted an out-of-use railroad track into a public park.
While The High Line may not be an example of classic re-wilding, it does serve as evidence about how nature can change a landscape and restore something we didn’t realize was missing. The purpose of re-wilding is to strengthen the earth’s ecosystems and make long-abandoned lands useful.
6 Benefits of Re-Wilding That Will Make You a Fan
Have you ever driven down a backroad in the country and found yourself wondering what it looked like before asphalt went down – where lush, green forests once stood? Re-wilding is not necessarily an attempt to go back to the days before civilization. Rather, the intention is to restore some balance back into the concrete jungles we’ve built.
6 reasons for re-wilding include:
1. Improves habitats so biodiversity can flourish. Biodiversity includes flora, fauna, insects, animals, etc. Many of these are driven out or go extinct because they can’t sustain in the plundered habitat. For example, experts believe bringing wolves back to Yellowstone National Park revitalized the population of beavers in the area.
2. Reproduces deteriorating ecosystems. Biodiversity is directly related to the rise or decline of an ecosystem. A stable ecosystem is the foundation of our survival on earth. The availability of food and water rely heavily on a healthy ecosystem.
3. Boosts economic opportunities for farming. Planting crops and harvesting them may not be a basic tenet of re-wilding. However, restoring farmland to previously abandoned landscapes can provide economic opportunities, as well as promote biodiversity in the area.
4. Re-introduces endangered and extinct species. Due mainly to human error, many species beneficial to the planet are either relocated, endangered or died off altogether. European countries are seeing a resurgence in the health of ecosystems after reintroducing bison, extinct in Europe since the early 1900s, into the wild.
5. Restores the natural pooling process of waterways. Waterways have a natural way of flowing that is affected by both the absence and presence of wildlife. Re-wilding is a way for the Earth’s original pooling system to take control without human interference.
6. May help mitigate climate change. Climate change is a huge topic everywhere in the world right now. Conservatives believe that re-wilding can help reduce, even slightly, the severity climate change has on ecosystems, biodiversity and other environmental factors. Many urban areas are planting trees to help stabilize the Earth’s temperature and re-wilding is an elaboration of that tactic.
(Back) Into the Wild
Re-wilding is not about going back to primitive times where everything was overflowing with greenery and dinosaurs. It is about protecting and enhancing diverse ecosystems that literally keep us alive.
