My Online Friends Keep Me Going!

06.30.2010 by Girl on Fire // 6 Comments

It’s true, I have online friends.  Friends that I may never meet in “real life”.  Some people can not understand how you can actually build friendships with people over the internet.  Well, you can.  Shoot…just look at the J-man and I.

YES, we did meet a few times in person over the years.  But it wasn’t until we found each other in the same chat room online that we started to really get to know each other, it was sorta fate the way I see it.  Neither of us went into these chat rooms..I think it was AOL or something like that.  Ate those still around?  He lived in Texas and I lived in TN.  Running into each other in person sparked the interest.  But the relationship grew from getting to know each other online and over the phone.  It’s been over 7 years not that we have been together and probably 11 or so years since we met for the very first time.

Then, as  I became a stay at home mom again, I really needed to socialize.  Socializing in person was hard having three kids, two of them being so little.  My online friendships started when I was pregnant with Lauren and on bed rest.  Social networking for women was getting really big.  There were online groups, forums, chat rooms, etc…on every topic you could imagine.

I formed some friendships that I still have to this day!  My most recent friends have come from being online as well.  Being sick for over a year now kept  me in constant pain with a lot of questions.  When I just went through my most recent health scare people from all over the world supported me.  They continue to support me.  People I may never know in person!  They have become awesome friends and I am so thankful for the internet so that I have this chance to know them.

It is totally possible to have a great relationship with someone that you meet online.  There are people just like you out there and the easiest place to find them in online!

Awesome post, Brandy! I have a friend that I met back in 2001 (ish) on a website for fiction writers. We’ve met in person twice over the past 9 years (wow, I still can’t believe it’s been that long) and I consider her one of my best of friends! Social networking = awesome!

As a stay at home mommy with limited close friends with kids social networking is awesome for me. I’ve met several great people through my blog who are great and keep me sane!

Some of my closest friends I have met online. YOU being one of them. I am so glad I decided to start a blog, otherwise the people I am closest to right now, I would have never have had the chance to meet.

Great picture by the way. I assume this one didn’t try to attack you like the last butterfly did, eh? 😛

I met my husband at work, but we worked at an ISP and got to know each other on IM, so nearly the same thing as meeting online I guess, lol.
For me, relationships online ARE real. The friends I’ve made online are special to me, we are close, supportive, and care about each other. Most of them I have known between 4-7 years. The world has changed and the social scene has changed right along with it.
I’m glad to know you Brandy.

I’ve made some lifelong friends online too. Some of them I’ve met and others I haven’t. Being a SAHM it’s nice to have people to talk to during the day other than my Kindergartener and PreSchooler and my online friends understand what I do and help me to be a better blogger too! As a matter of fact I’ve become such good friends with one blogger that she’s become one of my bff’s!

This post brought to you by The Parking Spot. All opinions are 100% mine. It's been awhile since I have flown, hmm….last October? But I do fly on a pretty regular basis it seems. At least 2-3 times a year. I know it is not Jet setter status, but I think it's pretty often.  So […]
