Last Sunday I challenged myself to get on the road to minimalist with a minimalist in 10 weeks challenge. I made a list of places in my home to work on.
- My room: CLOTHING. There is so much in there that I do not wear. Why do I need it? Do I really need 15 pairs of underwear? I DID GET MY CLOSET DONE, still have to tackle the dresser.
Office: DESK. The drawers are full of junk.- Bathroom: LINEN CLOSET. Get rid of all the old stuff and organize the good stuff.
Kitchen: PANTRY. Purge and organize.Laundry Room: SHELF. Purge and organize the short end shelf stack.- Living Room: CUBBY UNDER THE STAIRS. It’s packed with who knows what. Time to empty that sucker out.
- Stairs: STEPS. There should be NOTHING on the steps, yet there is…always. It needs to go.
- Emma and Laurens room: BOOKS. I need to purge and organize.
- Morgans room: BOOKS. Purge and organize, I’ll help her.
- Kids Bathroom: UNDER SINK. Purge and organize.
I obviously did not finish my list! It is a lot harder than I thought. I actually worked my tail off and ditched 2 bags of garbage and I have a stack of boxes in the living room that will need to be dropped off at the thrift store drop box today.
So even though I did not complete my list for week one, I am happy with what I got done. It takes time to go through everything you own…working your way towards being a minimalist. It really makes you realize how much stuff you have, and makes you question why the hell you have been hanging on to it.
I can honestly tell you that I probably have over 100 ink pens in my house. Why?? Why do I have over 100 ink pens?
I also tackled an area that was not on my list, my bedroom closet. There is so much more space in there now! I have a feeling I should go through it again and that I can let go of even more stuff.
So instead of making a new list for this week, I am going to continue working on last Sundays list and I will update again on next Sunday.
For now I am going to read my copy of Simplify again…
What did you do this week to simplify your life? Feel free to link your posts about being a minimalist, simplifying life, or general positivity below…

I just finished “Simplify” last week and purged all week long. We took so much to the dumpster at my dad’s office and I have a couch covered in clothes I am donating. I still feel like I’ve barely scratched the surface!!
Did you see this bundle of ebooks? http://bundleoftheweek.com/new-years-bundle-week-1/
They are all about simplifying. It includes “Simplify” as well.
Anyway, I’m with ya! I’m cleaning out this crap. It’d help if my kids weren’t pack rats… -__-
I have SOOOO many books on this, They really do get you going when you read them I am going to read this one again. I still have a ways to go, but I know it will be so much better with less stuff. I feel like the girls and I have wayyyy too many clothes. I gave away so much stuff before Christmas, but I could probably go through each room several times and pull out more each time ya know?
We have been going through old picture albums and weeding out those we really do not need. I also went through a 4 drawer file cabinet and shredded tons of paperwork no longer needed. Now I have 3 drawers that are empty, so, I can get rid of it also and put all that is left in a smail file box. Yeah! It is overwhelming but to think by donating it all, maybe there is someone else out there who can really use these things. It feels good! Now if only my man could purge some things he has no clue what it is or why he has it!
Aunt Wendy said I was turning in to you….. How far back do you need to keep things from Taxes…like receipts and invoices…???
Oh I forgot… I’ve started “unsubscribing” to stupid emails I get on a daily basis. I always delete them and now I’m just getting rid of them altogether. It’s very freeing!
Awesome work!! I’m envious of all you did get done. A ton more than I did.
7 years but, if you get audited, the IRS can request as far back as they want. When we had the business I kept everything since we were audited not once, but twice! They normally only request the past 3 years but you never know!
