Five Ways to Manage Your Time

06.18.2013 by Girl on Fire // Leave a Comment

Individuals that have extremely fast-paced careers, a house full of young children and study deadlines to meet know that managing their time wisely is a must. People that have little time to themselves must therefore be proactive when it comes to key organisational skills.

Set the alarm a little earlier

By adding an extra hour to your morning, you can overcome a number of tasks that you are too tired to tackle at night. After a long day in the office, the last thing you want to come home to is a towering pile of washing, dirty dishes and hungry mouths. Both preparing dinner whilst you have a fresh head and changing the bed sheets in morning will mean there is little housework to tackle in the evenings.

Make one night a week ‘your night’

If you know you have a number of up-and-coming deadlines to meet, arrange your schedule around these deadlines. Ordering a takeaway instead of preparing dinner one evening will give you a few spare hours – thus enabling you to tackle your workload. Just Eat lets you to order and pay online, meaning there is little to do when the food arrives. If you live in Brighton, simply type in your postcode in the site or search online for food delivery restaurants in Brighton. Within seconds your computer or mobile will reveal a number of food options in your area.

Create an office environment in the home

Having a space in the home that allows you to solely concentrate on work will enable you to stay focused. There are a number of distractions in the domestic environment, some of which include the television, the kids’ music and a variety of mess. Closing the door on such distractions will grant you a little ‘alone time’.

Create a list

Having a ‘to do’ list on display is much more beneficial than having it hidden in a diary. This tool will remind you to complete a variety of tasks and every time you check one off the list, you’ll feel a sense of satisfaction. Place a whiteboard on the kitchen wall or a calendar on the fridge.

Use your weekends wisely

Try to spend at least an hour over the weekend planning for the week ahead. This may include a big supermarket shop, putting a full load of washing in or re-planting your vegetable pots. Assessing these tasks in advance will save you valuable time over the week.
