Classic Toys for Toddler Birthdays

02.08.2015 by Girl on Fire // 1 Comment

It seems like the birthday party season is fast approaching for me.  I have been getting invites like CRAY-ZEE!  Not too mention all of my girls have birthdays coming up!  A lot of people I know had babies last year, so it’s putting us at first birthdays, those are very special birthdays.  When it comes to a first birthday, I love to give gifts that inspire learning.  Classic toys are great!  One brand that comes to mind when thinking about toddler toys that inspire learning is fisher price..  I can honestly remember some of the fisher price toys that I had as a kid.  The pretend phone is one I remember playing with well past the toddler years.  Oh and I can’t forget about the farm house!

These classic toys are still being sold today and honestly, why change what works?  Classic toys are still a huge hit with kids.   They inspire imagination and learning.  If a toy is high tech, it takes that spark away from children.  One thing that I am loving are those Thomas & Friends Wooden Railway sets!  They are so adorable and can inspire hours and hours of imaginative play for years!  My girls love to go to the book store because they have one of those set up.  They are 10 and 8 and will sit there and play with it!  You can even add on to them with new pieces every birthday and even Christmas.

When you think back to being a kid, what do you remember most?  For me it’s imaginative play.  I remember building houses out of appliance boxes, I remember being a mommy to my dolls, I remember pretending to cook and having tea parties.  I remember really PLAYING!

I think in this digital age people sometimes forget that play (especially make believe), is very important for a child.  We need to re-inspire!  Back to basics!

What Classic Toys do you remember playing with as a child?

I was told that I was ridiculously attached to my shape-sorter as a toddler. You can’t get more classic than that! And I think one toy that never goes out of fashion is the rocking horse. Kids can play with that for years!
