Wordless Wednesday, Yes…it Snows in Texas!

02.09.2011 by Girl on Fire // 14 Comments

It’s so funny to me that so many people are under the assumption that it never snows in Texas.  Some people I know go as far as to think that the entire state of Texas is a desert.  Really?  No the state of Texas is not just a giant desert.  I can promise you we have a little bit of everything and it’s all just combined into the great state of Texas.

We even get snow, sometimes a little…sometimes a lot.  Usually when we get it, we get it good.  Right now we are getting a little.  Last week was worse, we had ice in our bath tub…not kidding.  Today it’s snowing again, but I really don’t think we will get too much today.

Now I will tell you that when it snows a bit too much here things can get really bad.  Texas is just not equipped for the kind of weather we are getting right now.  Rolling blackouts being the worst part of it. Growing up in Michigan I don’t ever remember them randomly turning peoples power off.  It’s not cool.  They need to figure out a better plan.  The other thing that causes problems is sand instead of salt.  If they had some salt trucks going things would be a whole lot different.

Oh, and the biggest problem of all?  Lacking snow equipment.  No snowsuits, no snowboots.  My girls do have some boots, but they are for looks not function.  This can lead to a lot of slipping and falling.  Check out poor Emma’s faceplant in the snow…

Hope she was OK! I wish we only got little bits of snow here and there. New England winters suck. 🙂

My mom who lives in NY has a friend that moved to South Carolina a few years ago and she is not used to them not knowing what to do with snow down there. Nobody owns shovels or rock salt so when they got hit with a few snow storms this year everyone was freaking out!

I think Texas would be a great place to visit. I just wouldn’t go near the border, after everything we hear on the news.

Oh no! Tell her that is the wrong way to make a snow angel! (silly, sorry)
looks for some heavy plastic bags, add another layer of socks & they always make good boots in case of snow or rain! even living in WI all my life, I had lots of times my mom did not have the funds to get new winter gear. but I bet the kids had a blast playing in it 😉
