Wordless Wednesday

07.01.2009 by Girl on Fire // 20 Comments

Fireworks injuryThis Wordless Wednesday I am posting a photo of an injury caused by fireworks.

A warning for all of you parents to be very careful.  This injury was caused when a 100 shot (or larger) firework fell over and began firing in all directions.

There was nothing anyone could do to stop it.  We all ran and tried to shield the children as we ourselves were getting hit and burned.  Morgan got hit in her chest.  You’ll notice that it skimmed her skin cutting it open.  Now, had she been turned, imagine what could have happened!  That could have went straight into her body!

The photo was taken a few days after the accident.  This was several years ago, but is still fresh in my head.  Be careful people!

OH and to add to this story, I was riding in a car on the 4th and I was maybe 17?  The window was down and I was shot in the head with a bottle rocket!  Watch where your shooting those things people!  Also, leave the big guns to the pros and still watch out.  It can malfunction at anytime!

Oh, it did. This was actually a long time ago. She does have a small scar from it though.

Thanks for posting this. It can be a dangerous time of year! When I was younger a kid was playing with a firework at it blew up in his face. To this day (he lives a few bks from me now) he still has the purple dots on his face. Also a local factory that makes Chrysler wheelchair accesible vans puts on a firework show every year. Few years ago one of the fireworks landed on one of the new vans(empty) and it caved in the roof. Lucky it didn’t land on one of the cars driving by..only feet away.

I’m glad most of that stuff is illegal here unless you have a permit.

That is scary! I was with some friends a few years back who bought illegal fireworks and one tipped over and started firing in all directions underneath cars etc. I was nervous about them to begin with, and now I never want to do those again!

Yikes! That is so scary. The truth is, the kids shouldn’t be anywhere remotely close to the fireworks…but it is so fun and they are so in awe. We watch them from a ways back at a park, professionally shot off by professionals with fire and ambulance officials near by.

Owie! Fireworks are illegal in Iowa now for private use but there’s always someone that gets ahold of them.
