A little over a week ago I told you about a Simple Service Project we were working on with All You Magazine and Champions for Kids. Our goal was to show you how we could make a donation that will make a difference to someone in need without spending a ton of money. We did this by shopping sales, using coupons and shopping the low prices at Walmart.
At first we had talked about donating our basket full of goodies to the local Boys & Girls Club here in Lake Dallas. Thing is, no one contacted me back when I inquired about making a donation. So I was thinking about what other organizations I could donate too….hmmmmmm…..
But then I had a fantastic idea (I have those quite often)! My friend’s sure could use some help!
My friend Reece passed away. He left behind a wife and two children. They live in my neighborhood too! Lauren, Emma and I decided to take our basket of goodies to our friends.
We decided to walk since it isn’t that far. That there basket was pretty darn heavy though. I’m regretting carrying it over there!
This is Gunner, he is super cute! When he seen us his first thought was that we were there to watch him so his mom could go somewhere. He was mad! You can tell he was teary eyed in this photo.
He was totally cool after he realized that we were just there to visit and that we had brought him some goodies!
We had filled a laundry basket with all sorts of goodies! There were paper towels, Macaroni & Cheese, Apple Sauce, Cans of mixed fruit, Jello, Pudding, Toothbrushes, Lotion, Tuna, a Book, Facial Tissue, Bubbles, Sidewalk Chalk, Powdered Milk and much much more! You can view my whole shopping trip and see what I bought in my Google+ album.
After looking through all the goodies, Lauren, Emma and Gunner spent sometime playing while I visited with my friend Jeannette. It feels good to help and you don’t even have to put out a lot to help someone else.
I hope you will take some time and check out Champions for Kids and learn about the simple service projects you can do with your kids.
This shop has been compensated as part of a social shopper insights study for Collective Bias. #CBias

That little boy in the Motorhead shirt is adorable! I’m so sorry for the family’s loss, that is beyond heartbreaking. That’s so nice that you were able to take them the basket of goodies.
Great Story! I love this program – helping the “littlest people”.
LOVE that you included some fun kid items for them to play with – I am sure that will be so helpful to the mom to have her kids happily engaged with these treats! It’s easy to forget that toys are a luxury when you’re in a financial bind!
I had the same thing happen to me with the original group I wanted to donate to! I feel a little bad that they missed out on a donation but at least it was still going to a those that needed it!
Great job helping a family you know that needs it! It feels great to make a difference!
? So touching! And great that you were able to help them out!
