What Have I Missed Out on Due to a Sick Kiddo…and a Photo Contest!

02.21.2010 by Girl on Fire // Leave a Comment

I was asked this question…what have I missed out on due to having a sick kid and having to be home to take care of them? I have been thinking long and hard on this for well over a week.  That’s a long time to think about one simple question don’t you think?

I came to the conclusion that it had to be nothing.  Atleast nothing important enough for me to remember.  I think my kids come first and apparently other things just are not all that important to me because I came up with nothing.  Not one single event stands out in my head.

Maybe though…maybe it is because my kids are rarely sick and I rarely have any events going on.  So maybe I’ve had some brilliant luck that never matched those two rare occurrences of a sick child and a chance for me to go out.  I’m willing to bet that is it.  Maybe if I had more of a full social calender and kids that would tend to get sick more that I would have some better answer to give.

I can promise you though that I would have no problem skipping something to be home with my sick children.  When they get sick I worry about them so much.  Fevers scare me and I hover.  There is no way I could leave them home sick, in the care of someone else, just so that I could go out.  No way…

I’m not exactly sure why my kids don’t pick up all the rampant illness’s that other children pick up so easily.  I can tell you that I think the following things help.

  • I don’t run my kids to the doctor very every little thing.  When I do take them to the doctor, that is usually when they pick up an illness.
  • I don’t over medicate my children.  I don’t think you have to give a medicine for every symptom a child experiences.  Medicines in my opinion are to only be used when needed.
  • I use homeopathic and natural treatments…they work, I swear it!.
  • I feed my kids real foods.

You may not agree, but something I’m doing must be working!  Similasan is a brand that makes homeopathic medicines.  I have actually used the Ear Ache Relief product that they make often for myself!  It works!

Right now Similasan and Shutterfly are having a photo contest!
