What do you give for Christening Gifts?

02.15.2013 by Girl on Fire // 1 Comment

I’ve never been to a Christening before, but I expect to be photographing some soon.  So I wondered, what do you give for Christening Gifts?

Christening giftsI would guess a good gift from me, the photographer, would be a frame to use on one of the photos I would take.  Something to display that commemorated the event.  What do you think?

Or it could be totally cool to give a Children’s Sterling Silver Diamond Cross Pendant that could be used in the photos and then put away for the baby as a keepsake.  I like that idea, something that would dress up the photos without being some sort of goofy prop…you know I’m not a big prop person, it has to be just right.

I really could use some advice on this as I prepare to shoot more events in the coming year.  I wish I had already experienced a Christening, but I have only been to baptisms of older children and adults.  Never a Christening of a baby.  It’s new to me, so help me out.

What would you bring as a gift?  I know that as a photographer I do not have to bring a gift, I just think it would be a nice gesture to connect more with my clients.

It’s common to give religious items (Bible, cross necklace or bracelet, a rosary if the family is Catholic, book of prayers, etc.) for an infant baptism. Often people will give something that is engraved with the date and the child’s baptismal name so they can celebrate their baptismal anniversary in the years to come. Maybe you could get a picture frame engraved? That would be something personal from you and could become the gift you always give. =)
