We Are Americans People…

09.23.2009 by Girl on Fire // 3 Comments

…so I say, support America first.  It seems a lot of “feed the people” type stuff focuses on other countries.  What about the people struggling in our own country?  Are they not as important?  What about that guy you see every Saturday hanging out behind the local fast food joint…think he isn’t as hungry as those folks you see on T.V.?  He is!  You know what else?  That man is mostly likely a Vet that served his country and was left to fend for himself after being mentally damaged by war.  I bet you didn’t ever think about that.  I bet you think..hurry walk faster…look at that bum.  How sad.  Imagine what it is like.  It can happen to anyone.

Feeding America is the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief charity. With a network of food banks serving all 50 states, Feeding America supplies food and groceries to 63,000 agencies responsible for feeding people at risk of hunger.

  • Today, over 36 million Americans are food insecure – that equates to an astounding 1 in 8 Americans.
  • Feeding America provides food assistance to more than 25 million Americans each year, including 9 million children and 3 million seniors.
  • Nearly 97% of donations to Feeding America go directly towards feeding hungry Americans and engaging our country in the fight to end hunger. Feeding America secures and distributes more than 2 billion pounds of food and grocery products annually.

Kind of crazy to read those stats huh?

Well, The Cheesecake Factory wants to help!  Check this out:CCF_Logo_MagentaBox_jpg

Sharing a common goal, The Cheesecake Factory has partnered with Feeding America for The ‘Drive Out Hunger’ Tour. Throughout the month of September, in support of Hunger Action Month, we’ll be touring 30 cities in 30 days holding an event each day to collect cans of soup benefiting the local food bank. Join us in supporting this cause by bringing two cans of soup to the event at each city and receive:

  • A complimentary slice of Stefanie’s Ultimate Red Velvet Cake Cheesecake™ – for the first 500 guests who donate two cans of soup.
  • A special gift to use on a future visit to The Cheesecake Factory® for every guest who donates.
  • Being a part of the bigger picture by getting an official ‘Drive Out Hunger’ Tour photo taken and uploaded to our Photo Mosaic page online.
  • Live radio remotes featuring your favorite local radio station personalities and music.

I hope you’ll check it out! Oh, don’t forget to get them on Facebook too!

I agree with you 100%. Not that i don’t care about starving people and children in other countries, but we need to help our fellow US citizens first. There is hunger and poverty here too and I feel like it gets ignored. Its nice to see organizations doing something here.

Dammit. I was hopin’ this was gonna be about free cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory….ugh.

Homeless people. I have mixed feelin’ on them. I guess it depends on which of my three personalties is up front at the time. Today, I’d roll down my window and say “getta damn job”, there are FAR too many resources in this bleedin’ country for people that can’t seem to help themselves. Another day, I’d try givin’ the crazy old dude my lunch, but he’ll probably just throw it back in my face because it’s money for booze he’s lookin’ for not food. Then the another day, I won’t roll my window down at all, but I’ll just sit there at the light and stare at him until he gets so uncomfortable he folds up his cardboard sign (where’d he get a sharpie to make that thing anyways? Those things are EXPENSIVE!) and trucks it back to the woods where he came from.

I’m mad today. I totally thought this was about free cheesecake day!
