Walmart’s Christmas Dinner for Eight and GC Giveaway!

12.22.2009 by Girl on Fire // 320 Comments

This giveaway has ended.  The winners were comments 182 and 210 42!

A lot of people will have extra mouths to feed throughout the Holidays.  Family traveling, friends, etc.  How do you work those extra mouths into your budget and menu?  How about Walmart’s Christmas Dinner for Eight for as low as $30?  Or what about the the New Year’s Eve meal for 10 under $40?

With Walmart, it is possible to pull off a huge meal on a budget.  Food Network’s Aaron Sanchez has some great recipes posted on the Walmart Holiday Meals Website.  Feeding 8 people on $30 is less than $4 per person!  I think that can fit into any holiday budget!DinnerComplete

Walmart’s $30 Christmas feast for eight starts with these family-favorite ingredients:

  • One 10-pound spiral cut half-ham
  • Three 8-ounce cans Del Monte Green Beans
  • One 10-pound bag of Russet potatoes
  • One 12-count package of Sara Lee dinner rolls
  • One 10 inch Pumpkin Pie

NewYears

Chef Aarón created a party-ready fiesta spread for 10 for as low as $40. It includes:

  • Shrimp Tray (5 servings)
  • Vegetable Tray (10 servings)
  • Hillshire Farms Little Smokies (8 servings)
  • Pillsbury Crescent Rolls (6 servings)
  • Land O’Lakes Egg Nog (8 servings)
  • Red Velvet cake

I wouldn’t be able to use the New Years menu listed above because of the Shrimp, but I know most people are a huge fan and love it.  I’m sure it would be a hit at a party.

So what do you think…is the price right on the menus?  I try to make the most food I can with spending the least amount possible.  Stretching food is a skill I have.  One of my favorites for Holidays is homemade mashed potatoes.  My secret ingredient for making them spectacular….add cream cheese!  Yum!

I have 2 $30 Walmart gift cards to giveaway to 2 lucky readers!

Main Entry: Share your favorite Holiday memories or money-saving tips!

Bonus entries:  You must complete the main entry before completing any of the bonus entries!

  • Visit Walmarts Holiday Meals Website and tell me what looks super yummy to you!

  • Tweet about this giveaway by hitting the twitter symbol below the post and add @stitchblade to your tweet.  Leave a comment here with your tweet status URL.  You may do this once per day!

This giveaway will end January 5th 2010!

I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of Walmart. In addition, I received a Walmart gift certificate to thank me for taking the time to participate and two to offer as a giveaway.

So far my favorite holiday memory is this last one. My cousin was there & everyone held their crap inside & got along. That’s the best, they took away the stress!

My favorite memory has to be last year. It couldve been the worst Christmas ever but my pastor and his family brought over breakfast Christmas morning along with a ton of donated presents. Despite everything that they had been going through my kids said “this was the best Christmas ever” And that was the best gift I couldve ever recieved!

My money saving tips to stretch the holiday menu budget:

Don’t buy all of the items on your list at the same store. If Store A has a few things cheaper, pick them up, then head to Store B for the items they have cheaper.

Also, once you have your list made, visit the manufacturer’s website to search for printabl coupons to take with you on your trip. Sort thru your sunday paper coupons too if you save them.

My husband’s parents lived on a farm, when my husband and I were first married and there wasn’t enough room in the kitchen for all the family and friends that came for the holiday dinners, that they had, so they would set up sawhorses for tables in the attached wood storage room and we would all bring dishes for the tables and his parents would cook the turkey or a big ham and we would all eat and enjoy visiting with everyone.

To save money for holiday meals I buy canned or durable goods for my recipies as they go on sale and I try to buy several of each, like green beans and yams. I squirrel them away in a seperate section of the cabinets so no one uses them. Since I use some recipes for several different holidays, it’s great to have a little stockpile.

We have a tradition starting with the christmas eve candlelight service at church.
Then we celebrate with a dinner and go home to open one gift before bedtime!
Then Christmas day is filled with presents, grandmas and alot of food.
We are passing the tradition along but boy-oh-boy It wouln’t be the same without that Christmas ham.

Every Xmas eve the whole family gets together for dinner. Once dinner is done and cleanup is complete my three grandkids (3,4,and 6) come into the living room, at the same time the doorbell rings and santa walks in. After a bunch of screaming for exitment they stand by the tree and sing two songs for santa, before he hands out the gifts. Once the giving happend they sing “we wish you a merry christmas to santa” and then he departs. It is a tear jerker every year.

This Christmas was fantastic and is now one of my favorite holiday memories. We saw our foster granddaughter open her gifts in the early morning, then we went to our son’s family where our 18 month old granddaughter greeted us with a purple bow on her head. Last we went to our daughter’s house and saw both daughters and their families. Little Emily clung to me almost the whole time we were there. What a great day!

My most special Christmases were the ones when we got to come home, enjoy the big family meals, and I was able to spend Christmas day playing with my cousins. There is nothing more special about the holidays than the chance to be with the ones you love.
