The Ultimate Guide To Renovating Your Bathroom

Renovating Your Bathroom

When you own your own home, you have a lot of responsibilities to uphold. Not only do you have mortgage payments to make and bills to pay, but you have to make sure that everything is running as it should be. You no longer have a landlord that will replace your boiler when it breaks or fix your oven when it starts to die. The onus is all on you.

But buying a home comes with a lot of great things too. Not only do you have something that is completely your own, but you can make it your own too. In rented accommodation, you have to work with what you have. But when you own it, you can go to town with the renovation works. One of the first things that people always want to do when they get their new property is to renovate the bathroom. If that’s first on your list, here are a few points to help you out.

Work Out The Space

The very first thing that you’re going to need to do is to figure out what space you have to work with. At the moment, you will already have the set bathroom in its space. But, you might like to consider whether you have enough room or whether you should extend. This could mean that you add an addition onto the side of the house, or utilize neighboring rooms to add some extra space.

Rip Everything Out

With the area you’re working with all figured out, your next step will be to rip out what is already there. Now, if there are features that you’re hoping to keep, you’re going to need to be careful to keep them in tact during the process. However, to renovate the entire space, you will need to remove everything so that you’re left with an empty shell.

Measure Up

Now that you have a blank canvas, you’re going to want to measure everything up. Even if you’re not sure what kind of look or suite you want just yet, you need to know what you’re working with and what you can fit in wear. So, take the measurements of the space before you head out looking for new suites so that you know what you can logistically work with. At this stage, you may also want to get a rough idea in your mind of where you want everything to go too.

Choose Your Colors

Then you need to think about the design theme that you’re going to work with. This will largely include the color scheme that you want to choose too. For this, you may want to do some research online, look in magazines and browse around different showrooms. Then, you’ll be able to know what you’re looking for when it comes to picking out the perfect new suite.

Decide On A Design

Then you’re going to want to figure out the suite design that will suit the space and style that you’re going for. For this, you’re going to want to consider the different types of fixtures that you can work with. You may want to go with stunning freestanding bathtubs, including soaking tubs, or rain showers or automatic flushing toilets for a hint of modernity. Either way, be sure to consider your finished look before you decide.

Consider Any Extras

While you are looking at different suite designs, you should also be sure to consider any extras. If you want to add in some luxury bathroom touches, there are a lot of additions you could go with. Firstly, there are different shower heads to work with, and you may even want to add in a sauna if you love to have a steam!

Work On The Walls

But you also have to make sure that you pick out the tiles for the walls too. You’re going to want to make sure you select a bathroom tile design that works with the style you’re looking to achieve and the suite you’ve chosen, whether it has a vintage feel or it’s uber modern. Be sure to pick out floor tiles at this point too.

Install The New Suite

And finally, with everything picked out, all that’s left to do is to get everything installed. When you ripped everything out, you may have prepped the surfaces and applied any new plaster that was needed. If not, you’ll need to do that now too. Then, with the flooring, walls, and suite installed, just add in a few finishing accessories and your new beautiful bathroom will be complete.
