The Best Buys for Traveling with a Baby

02.17.2017 by Girl on Fire // Leave a Comment

Traveling with a baby can be difficult, but there’s no need to put it off and miss out on some great experiences. It can be an exciting adventure and there are plenty of things you can buy to make your trip easier, safer, and less stressful. Here is a look at some of the best buys for traveling with a baby.

The Best Buys for Traveling with a Baby

Lightweight Stroller

Big prams are fantastic. They are comfortable, easy to maneuver, and great for storage. They aren’t, however, particularly useful when it comes to travel. Look for a lightweight, collapsible stroller, as they take up a lot less room and are easier to carry if you need to move quickly. If you are flying, most airlines will let you keep a stroller with you until you board the plane.

Sun Shades

If you are traveling to a hot destination, sunshades for the car windows and a parasol for the pram are essential for protecting your baby from harmful rays and preventing sunburn. It might also be a good idea to pack baby sunscreen. While sunscreen is available to buy in most places, babies and young children need a much higher SPF, which may not be as readily available away from home.

Baby Carrier

If you are planning on doing some exploring, a baby carrier might be more useful than a stroller. For young babies, a stretchy wrap can be a brilliant, and comfortable, way to carry them around. Just make sure you practice using it before you leave.

Car Seat

A car seat is a must for any car travel. Laws on car seats differ greatly from country to country and even across states, so make sure yours meets the accepted standard for your destination before you travel. If you are traveling by plane, but then intend on driving once you arrive, children under two can fly in a car seat, as long as you are willing to pay for the extra seat,

Nursing Cover

If you are breastfeeding, a nursing cover is an essential travel purchase. A lightweight cover means you can feed comfortably wherever you go. Research more tips for traveling with infants before you travel, to make sure you are fully prepared and ready to nurse in different locations.

Travel Highchair

Most tourist destinations will have highchairs, but if you are heading away from hotspots, or you intend to visit small local restaurants or places of interest, highchairs may not always be available. Ensure your baby’s safety and comfort by packing a portable, fabric harness that attaches to normal chairs.

Favorite Toy

Babies and young children don’t always respond well to change. So, to keep them feeling secure and happy, take some of their favorite toys and stuffed animals. Another great idea is to pack a blanket from home, as its smell will help them to settle.

As well as these things, remember to pack first aid supplies and child safe paracetamol for emergencies, as well as any other medication your child needs. Make sure you research local medical centers and emergency services, so you know what to do in the event of any problems, and program any relevant numbers into your phone.
