Top Tips to Give Your Bathroom a New Lease of Life

Is your bathroom feeling a little down and dingy? Has it seen better days? Well, don’t worry, there are lots of things that you can do to lend it a completely new lease of life. All you need to do is do the simple things right and then think outside the box a little. It doesn’t have to be costly or complicated.

Replace the Faucets Rather than the Whole Fixture

If your sink or bathtub is causing your problems or you simply don’t like how it looks, you might be tempted to replace it. But that seems like a pretty drastic course of action to me. Of course, if the fixture is really old or damaged, it might be a good idea to find a replacement. But, in most cases, there are better ways to improve the way that your sink or bathtub looks. For example, you could simply replace the faucets. This instantly makes the fixture look newer and less old-fashioned. It tends to be the faucets that age quickest. So, by replacing them, you will make them look a little more modern and up to date, and that’s exactly what you want.

Get Rid of Mold and Ugly Grouting

The bathroom is always going to be the wettest room in the house. It’s where you and your family shower, so steam and water are always going to be in the air. Unfortunately, this also provides the perfect environment in which mold can grow and spread. And if your bathroom is not fitted with proper ventilation, it can be very hard to keep the mold at bay. So, add a better ventilation system (or simply open the window a little) to beat that mold. Another problem is related to grouting. Over the years, it gets ugly and dirty, and it simply doesn’t look very good. So, get rid of it and replace it to make the whole room look a little nicer.

Spice Up the Mirror

The mirror is one of the most important components in any bathroom if you ask me. The mirror draws people’s attention towards it, and it helps to make a room feel lighter and more spacious. So, you should think about how you can spice up your mirror. Repainting the frame or even fitting a new and more interesting frame can be a great way to make it look a little better. It might seem like a relatively small change to make, but that doesn’t mean it won’t have a big impact on the overall effect of the bathroom. Alternatively, you could look around antique and thrift stores to find a nice mirror to replace your old one.

Paint Cabinets

Those wooden cabinets in your bathroom are probably starting to look a little dull and boring by now, right? Well, you don’t have to get rid of them and buy something more modern. You can breathe life back into them and make them look like new by simply painting them. It’s such a simple thing to do; you can do it in a matter of hours. Yet it makes a big difference in how they look and how the room as a whole looks. It’s worth a try if you don’t look how your cabinets currently look. What have you got to lose by trying it out and seeing how it looks? Nothing at all!

Replace the Old Tiles

The tiles on the walls of your bathroom are also very important. What’s on the walls is very important because we often look at this first of all. So, you want your tiles to be in keeping with the rest of the room and look fresh and interesting at the same time. There’s nothing worse than old tiles that look like they’ve been out of date for a couple of decades. It’s never a good look for a bathroom. So, if this sounds familiar to you, it might be a good idea to rip out those old ones and replace them with something a little more contemporary. Visit Tile Markets to get some inspiration and ideas.

Add a Piece of Artwork to the Wall

Most people don’t think to add any artwork to their bathroom walls. Instead, they leave this to other rooms in the house. But there’s no reason why artwork can’t look great in your bathroom as well. The artwork should be something that fits in with the overall theme and colour scheme of the bathroom. If you have blue walls, pick something that is predominantly in a different shade of blue. Having a piece of art that is of a similar colour but slightly different can make the room look very impressive indeed. And, these days, it’s so cheap to pick up a print of any piece of artwork throughout history. It doesn’t have to be an original piece.

Choose an Unusual Light Fixture

The light hanging from the ceiling is very important. Most bathroom light fixtures are pretty dull and boring. But they certainly don’t need to be. Don’t limit yourself to the kinds of light fixtures that you can find in the bathroom section of your local DIY store. Instead, think outside the box and try unexpected fixtures. Many people opt for interesting fixtures like old chandeliers. It’s certainly not a conventional way of lighting a bathroom, but it can look great. If you like that vintage kind of aesthetic, it can be a great way to put a new spin on how your bathroom looks.

Add Some Functionality

Not everything has to offer style for the sake of style though. There are many great improvements that you can make that have a predominantly functional purpose. For example, you could add a small wooden stool in the bathroom where you can pile up your fresh towels. It offers a functional purpose because it means that you will no longer have to hang them on the radiator. But it also has a big impact on how the room looks overall. It makes the room feel more pleasant as well as a little more homely and traditional. It’s often these small practical touches that can make a bathroom look and feel like it’s really being used. And that’s important.
