Top 10 Sweets & Naughty Treats

01.14.2014 by Girl on Fire // 1 Comment

These days there is a strong focus on eating healthily, and rightly so. But once in a while we deserve a treat too. And what better way to treat yourself than with some classic sweets? The following naughty treats are tasty and fun for adults and kids alike.lolly pop

1) Sweet peanuts

Sweet peanuts are a classic candy with a real retro feel and they are a great way to treat yourself if you have been being healthy and eating plenty of fruit and veg.  They are delicious by themselves or as part of a pick ‘n’ mix.

2) Lovely lollypops

If you want a real taste of childhood then a good old fashioned lollypop is perfect.  They are available in every flavour under the sun and they take a while to eat so you can’t stuff yourself with them.

3) Jelly babies

Jelly babies have been around for decades and they are still as popular as ever, beloved by children and grown-ups alike. These tiny treats are little bites of wonder and they deliver a great little sugar rush.

4) Gobstoppers

This is another retro sweet that takes a while to eat, so just a handful should last you, or the kids quite a long time. These multicoloured sweets are an ideal little treat once in a while and the taste is filled with nostalgia.

5) Candy canes

You might see candy canes more often at Christmas but that doesn’t mean you can’t treat yourself to one or two during the rest of the year. This is an amazingly traditional sweet that makes one think of the magical world of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, so add some magic to your life.

6) Chocolate rum truffles

Chocolate and a touch of alcohol always goes well together. Well maybe not for young kids but for the sweet-toothed adult treats like chocolate rum truffles are a must.

7) Candy surprise eggs

The most famous of this category are of course Kinder Eggs, but there are plenty of other options available. These include Spiderman, Moshi Monster and Disney Princess eggs, which kids will absolutely love.

8) Jelly beers

Jelly beers are hugely popular and very nostalgic for a lot of people who remember nomming down these sweets when they were children. They are a great alternative to the real stuff for kids at parties too, so it’s well worth stocking up.

9) Turkish delight

Turkish delight is a famous old sweet and one that is as popular now as has been for decades. The perfumed rose flavour is not to everyone’s taste but with a liberal coating of chocolate most people can’t resist this retro candy.

10) Bon bons

Sucking on a bon bon is a great way to bring back the taste of childhood and these sweets are a lovely way to put some fun in your mouth. Everyone deserves a treat to make life a little bit more fun, so don’t forget to treat yourself!

I have never ever had Turkish Delight but want to. We just finished reading The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. Remember Edmund being tempted & tricked with Turkish Delight? Any clue where I can find the stuff?
