The Veil, a Novel for Young Adults

10.07.2011 by Girl on Fire // 1 Comment

Morgan is an avid reader who devours books! I encourage her to read a variety of books, from classics to the new genre’s that are out. I have confidence in her maturity to be able to read pretty much anything with in reason.  As she gets older I will slack even more on what she reads.

Recently we received a book called “The Veil” which is a Young Adult novel by Cory Putman Oakes. It will be available in paperback, Kindle, Nook and iBooks e-book formats.  It’s listed as being suitable for ages 13-up/Grades 7-up.  Morgan is 13 and in 8th grade.  The author is attorney and mother living in Austin, Texas.  We like Texans!

Book Synopsis:

Seventeen-year-old Addison Russell is in for a shock when she discovers that she can see the invisible world of the Annorasi. Suddenly, nothing is as it appears to be?the house she lives in, the woman who raised her, even the most beautiful boy in town all turn out to be more than what they seem. And when this strange new world forces Addy to answer for a crime that was committed long ago, by parents she has never known, she has no choice but to trust Luc, the mysterious Annorasi who has been sent to protect her. Or so he says . . . .

Set in the city of Novato, California, the narrative references real places including the Ghirardelli Ice Cream and Chocolate Shop, The Palace of Fine Arts, and The Fairmont Hotel, juxtaposed with the fantasy world of the mythical Annorasi whose powers include invisibility and flying.

Morgan absolutely loved this book! She said the story line was very interesting and super creative!  Addison was her favorite character in the book.  She looks forward to reading more from this author. She didn’t want to tell me much more because she said she didn’t want to ruin it for those that want to read it, including me.

You can pre-order The Veil on Amazon.

We received a copy of The Veil to facilitate this review.   No compensation was received.

I love the synopsis from the books and would definitely try to unveil the story in ‘The Veil’. This book seems very interesting to me and also the characters. I think every mother should try to instill the habit of reading in children.
