Over the last few days my family participated in the Great American Bake Sale! Did you know that this year over 17 million kids will face hunger in America? I think one of the main reasons I was so quick to jump on this opportunity is because this benefits American children. Some of you may remember some of my vent posts about Americans needing to pay attention to our own country and helping out here in America first.
My girls and I are always actively looking for community service projects to take part in and with Morgan being the amazing cook she is, this was perfect! That kid can bake! I myself am not a very good baker.
Share Our Strength’s Great American Bake Sale is a national campaign that mobilizes Americans to end childhood hunger by holding bake sales around the country. Your family or group can also join up with Domino Sugar and Share Our Strength to help end childhood hunger.
We haven’t been involved with 4H this year, so we decided to tackle this task as a family. We didn’t have much luck finding a business to let us set up outside. Walmart told us they no longer allow it except for Girl Scouts and the Salvation Army.
We started to get a little discouraged and then I thought…hey…let’s take this party mobile!
Friday Morgan baked all day long! She even made a gift basket of goodies to sell as a Mother’s Day basket. She had loafs, slices, muffins, coffee toffee cookies and more!
We hit up all of our friends at local business’s and they were buying like crazy. I think Morgan will even be able to start her own little business out of this. She already has begun taking orders for loafs of her Banana Chocolate Chunk bread!
Her Mother’s Day gift basket was an easy sell! One of the employees at our local Aaron’s bought it right away! She also sold a loaf of Banana Bread and severeal of her Blueberry Muffins there!
We also stopped at our local Dollar General and sold several items to the employees there. She even got an order for more in the future!
We also sold to some vendors that we seen while driving by. One of local business owners was out there giving away samples of his subs. He bought several slices of Banana Bread. His business is called Kanapkis Subs. If you’re ever in Lake Dallas, be sure to stop in for one of his awesome sandwiches or some Italian Ice! My girls love it!
We took the remaining baked goods to Morgan’s softball game tonight to finish off our mobile bake sale! We are not a large group, but we did it together and had fun. It’s a good way to do some community service with your family. You can sign up to host your own bake sale! On the website you will find everything you need! Printable posters, labels, recipes and other ideas to help you get it all organized!
If you can not find a business to let you host it outside, then do what we did and take it mobile! Go to your bank, your hairdressers, library, etc! They’ll be glad you came by! We raised $62.00 in our Mobile bake sale!
Be sure to follow Domino Sugar on Twitter and Facebook!
We received a $20 Gift Card from Domino Sugar/C&H Sugar to help fund/sponsor our bake sale. All opinions and experiences written above are our own. We were not compensated for this post.

That is just SO great!! I had intended on doing it but forgot with my ADHD and all the other stuff going on. Before I even read this part, I had thought,”I bet local businesses will help.” And they did! That is why I am so big on local economy (one of the reasons, anyway). That is so exciting! You guys GO!
