Finally! We’re officially in February and the days are gradually getting lighter, longer and more sunny which means that spring really is just around the corner. While the shops are eagerly anticipating a flood of shoppers looking to swap sweaters for light jackets, blouses and floral print skirts you may find it more fun to update key pieces the old fashioned way! Clothes are one of those items that can be easily transformed with just a thread, needle, scissors and sewing machine along with an array of beads, motifs, and ribbons from your local haberdashery store.
Shortened Sleeves
Why go out and buy a load of new short sleeved blouses and shirts for work when all you need to do is to turn up, or shorten the sleeves of the ones you’ve already got? This works best on tops that have a long, or 3 /4 length arm and made out of a relatively sturdy fabric like a cotton or polyester as cutting into a velvet, or voile item might cause it to rip. Don’t forget to add ease, or gathering room for the edges so that it closes around your arm nicely. Why not liven up a plain shirt by adding a cute pocket patch? Lace sleeves and collar? Or you could even have a go at dying it a different color.
Cut Off Denim
There’s no doubting it our winters are getting milder, and summers hotter yet wetter, so you’re going to need a pair of sturdy, durable denim shorts. Can’t bear the idea of having to shop for a new pair? If you truly love your old designer jeans, not only because you got them at a discount online at Code Promo Blanche Porte sur pluscodepromo.fr then you should give them a new lease of life by turning them into a cute pair of cut-off shorts. Please note that denim is quite a hardwearing fabric but the edges do tend to fray easily, so we recommend adding a length of blue, or black ribbon to the bottoms to stop it from doing this. Once you’ve created your new shorts, go ahead and try them on or you could add a sparkly belt or rhinestones on the pockets to inject a little extra glamour.
Gathered Midi Skirt
This project’s perfect if you’ve got any old maternity dresses lying around that you loved but can’t wear anymore. Decide where you want the skirt to start, not forgetting you’ll need to add in a waistband as you’ll be removing the original one when you separate the top from the skirt. Don’t worry if it’s a little too big; you can always add in elastic, pleats or gathers that’ll not only give it shape but help it to fit nicely. Try not to pick a dress that looks obviously dated, or is a particularly difficult color, such as orange, to pair with other tops. Not only will you be reminded of a very special time in your life every time you wear this item, but you’ll also be saving a fortune on not having to buy bolts of fabric or shelling out on yet another store bought skirt.
