A Bar

If you love to socialize and entertain, a bar will make an incredible addition to your home. This repurposed room can make you feel like you’re out on the town when really you’re enjoying the comfort of your own home. Your friends and family will also enjoy taking full advantage of this space when they come to visit. It’s ideal for birthdays and family celebrations, but also a great place to practice your cocktail making skills.

To create your own bar, you firstly need to think about the type of bar you want to create. This should be in keeping with the rest of your home so consider what your decorating style is. This will make it easier to choose suitable colors, decor, and furniture for your new bar. Then search for a custom made bar online that suits both your style and the size of your room. You can also get creative with shelving and tables for a cheaper alternative. While the bar will be the main feature, don’t forget to include comfortable seating and lighting within this room too. Lighting can help set the right mood while stools and chairs make the room more inviting. Then all there is that’s left to do is display your alcohol selection. Why not place a cocktail party and unveil your new bar to your loved ones once all the work is complete.

An Office

Turning a spare bedroom into an office is one of the most popular repurposing ideas used by homeowners. It’s an ideal option if you work from home or just need an area to store your computer and organize your monthly bills. An office can also have a secondary purpose as a library. Imagine having floor to ceiling bookshelves to house your favorite books and a comfy chair to read in peace. If this sounds like your idea of heaven, then this could be the perfect new purpose for your spare room.

This is one of the quickest and easiest transformations you give to your spare room, which only adds to it’s appeal. Remove all of the current bedroom furniture and decors to give yourself a blank canvas to work with. You should then start thinking about color palettes and wallpapers for your the walls. Avoid bland and boring and have some fun with the design and styling of this space. This is particularly important now that you intend to spend a lot more time in what was your spare room. Once you’ve made a decision on the style of office, you want to create, start looking for beautiful furniture including a desk and chair. Always consider the positioning of these items to ensure there is a natural flow within the room. Also, don’t be afraid to take risks and choose bright and colorful pieces that inspire you.

Once your desk and chair have found their perfect position, add personal touches such as artwork, ornaments, and rugs. This is also the perfect time to erect your bookcases or shelves and organize your books. Why not also create a cozy office corner where you can enjoy a hot drink and take a break.

A Movie Room

Many homeowners dream of having their own movie room which allows them to sit back and relax while enjoying their favorite films. However, many make the mistake of thinking they can only include a movie room in their homes if they have a cellar. There’s no denying that cellars are a fantastic location for this purpose, but they are not necessarily your only option. With the right technology and window treatments, there is no reason why a spare bedroom can’t turn into your own cinema too. So rather than overlooking this idea, start seeing the potential of this room instead.

When turning your spare room into your own movie theater, there are a number of things you need to do. The first thing is making sure the room is as dark as it can be. To blackout a bedroom, you need to add specialist blinds to your windows to stop natural light from filling the room. This will prevent your projector from being distorted when it’s turned on. To assist with the acoustics, you will need to add carpets and an acoustic stretch wall treatment to the room. This involves covering the wall in fabric that bounces sound waves while also helping to keep outside noise out. Obviously, you will also need to install seating, projector screen, and a surround sound system into the room too.

It might sound like a lot of hard work and expense. But this is considered a cheaper and more affordable alternative to renovating your cellar. Think about how amazing this room would be for parties and sleepovers at your house.

When choosing a new purpose for your spare bedroom, always keep your lifestyle and interests in mind. For instance, changing your spare bedroom into a library when you hardly read defeats the point of repurposing the space. It should be a personal addition to your home that makes it a more enticing place to spend your time in. So think long and hard about what purpose would best suit you, as well as taking your home into consideration too.

Pain, Pain, Everywhere Pain…

So, I have this chronic pain disorder.  Somedays are good, somedays are bad.  But, every morning is rough.  It pretty much kills me to get out of the bed in the mornings.  If you deal with this, I would love to hear what you do to elevate some of the pain. I had wondered if […]
