I love to read books. I used to sit at school and read until they would call me for the bus. I believe I missed the bus several times due to my face being buried in a book. I try to squeeze in reading as much as I can. Yes, I read blogs too, but it is not the same as laying down in bed with a good book.
Right now I am reading the Sookie Stackhouse series. They made a TV show out of the book series called True Blood
. The book and the show are quite a bit different.
In the books I picture Eric as…well…a viking. On the series he is very sissified looking. Not viking like at all. I feel a little jipped. Haven’t the producers seen a viking before? Anyhow, he isn’t fitting my vision of what Eric should be. In the books he is a large powerful viking.
That Tara character in the book is hardly anyone, you don’t hear much from the character and she is a complete opposite of Tara in the series. On the show she is the most loudmouth obnoxious woman ever. If I was to see her I would have to bitch slap. Seriously…someone slap that woman!
Sam in the book is a MAN. On the series…another sissy looking boy. I mean really? Is this the type of guys women are attracted to? I’m sorry but I like MEN that look like men. These feminine boys are killing the show for me. Someone like Bill Paxton should have played Sam.
I hate the way Bill says “Suuuuuukie”.
I hate Sookies brother Jason…what an ugly whore!
I’ve only watched 3 or 4 episodes….I’m sure I will find more about it that I despise. The books are way better!

Now I only know the 1st season of True Blood… I never had heard of the Sookie books before the TV series.. and I seem to never have time to sit & read the way I used to… I love the TV series, but no longer get the HBO… I had a free trial when it first came out… I got hooked, but no $$ to actually pay for a channel…
so I can’t compare…
I get the Impression of Eric as being in charge… no, he is not big & burley, but I just know from the series he is older, tough, an elder, so in charge, not that he may be a viking… what I found interesting about the tv series is that most of the actors are all from dif. countries & have speech help with the dialects… for the southern drawl…
nice perspective tho from the books vs the series…
I felt the same way about the Interview with a Vampire movie vs the book…

I’m going to give it a chance. They only showed Eric one time. In the books he is a viking though. It’s just hard when you picture all of these characters the way the author intended them to be, then see a show and they are all different. Tara really does bother me though. Some of the main characters of the series were killed off in the first two books. That was strange.
Like everything..the books are always different….and you build up the character in your mind and then you are usually disappointed when they make it into a movie or tv show….but I really like them. Season 2 is great..more Eric…a little bit more strange IMHO…but it shows more Eric….
I don’t like Jason either and agree that they could of picked someone else to be Sam….and OMG..Tara is soooo annoying in the series…really…but Lafeyette…he is my favorite!!!!! So funny! Glad they kept him around.
I just don’t see how someone like Jason could be the town man whore…lmao
I started watching the show before I read any of the books. I LOVE the show. So I bought the 1st two books. I made it through the 1st one and hated it. All I could do was compare the book to the show and it was very distracting. Because of this, I haven’t even tried to read the 2nd one yet.
Now I know the books are usually always better, but you are right, they are SO different that it’s hard to do them both.
Oh, and Tara is annoying as hell and Eric makes a very powerful presence onscreen. Even if he isn’t a 6’7″ viking.

The first two books took me a awhile to commit to finishing. After that though I got into it and kept reading.
Yeah give it a chance. Sam is OK in it. Jason is a mangina. Eric is a sissy and Tara drives me insane. I think my favorite is Lafayette lol. But how can you not like the way Bill says suuuuukie! LOL But I think books always end up being much, much better than the show!!!! And I’m so glad you did this post!!!!!!!

LMAO I can’t stand the “suuuuuuuuuuuuuuukie” all breathy and stuff haha
All the True Blood Fans who love Bill…it’s because they haven’t read the Books. If I was Sookie, my choices would be first Eric, then some of her other boyfriends she had and dumped, then Sam… Bill would SO BE LAST SUPE ON EARTH I would ever consider.
The books are a trillion times better than the series. So disappointed by the series.
That said anything Sookie and TB related is better than Twilight. LMAO. I am SORRY, at least Sookie is a woman. Bella is just a girl. She doesn’t know what she wants and already she’s ready to tie herself to a Vampire FOREVER. If I stuck with my HS boyfriend, it would have been a mess – and he had a heartbeat.

Totally agree with everything you said!
I completely agree. I’ve read all the books and just LOVE Eric. After book 4 there was no going back. Bill was a total ass in the books and betrays Sookie early on. I think the first season is much like the books, with a few exceptions like Eric is the one who saves her from the vampire and of course the ending is very different. But it pretty much followed. With the books being from Sookie’s point of view I understand why they extended other characters like her brother. I have no clue what they were thinking with Tara and she annoys me too. The second season of True Blood goes way off track. But in a way at least I don’t know exactly what is going to happen.
I get a bit annoyed that they make Bill out to be like her true love in the show when that so isn’t the case in the books. Plus they make you not really like Eric and have him way more devious that in the books. However, if you are only on book seven then you might start to change your mind after book 9. Bill makes me like him so much more after that book. My favorite books are four and seven but I really liked nine a lot.
If I had to choose between the books and the series I would choose the books hands down. But I do still enjoy the series.
Oh, and I think the Sookie Stackhouse series beats Twilight’s ass, having read both! I don’t know anyone who reads Sookie and isn’t hooked. Charlaine Harris is such a gifted writer and way more entertaining. With the exception of a couple of the books, the series is so action packed and doesn’t drag on forever like Twilight.
If you haven’t finished book seven yet, just wait. The ending is just awesome.
As far as who is playing Eric, I really like him. I think they nailed the casting personally and love the job he is doing. I just don’t like what the writers are doing with his character. Now if they hook up it is only because Eric tricked her, not because of the strong connection and mutual attraction we know there in books. Pisses me off to no end.

Ahhh, but a viking looking guy would have been more satisfying to look at…..lol
Haven’t read the books yet, but I am hooked on the series. I heard the books don’t go into the details like the show does.
Books are way better! Hands down. Like I said in a comment above, the first two were a bit hard for me to get into, but after that I was hooked.
I haven’t watch the series at all, but I agree books are always better.
it’s diiiiiirtay!!!
