Photography has always been a love of mine. Until recently I only really shot my 35mm Minolta. I love taking photos and I longed for a digital SLR so I could see them instantly and get them up on display right away. About a month ago I was able to add a digital SLR to my equipment. I’ve never taken a photography class besides a semester in High-school. I’ve shot weddings, portraits and tons of kids pageant portfolios. I love to take photos of kids. I don’t pose them. I just let them be themselves and capture every amazing natural detail of them. I love pouty face photos. Life isn’t all about smiles you know. Photo’s should capture real life. This is my opinion anyhow and I have a high admiration of my opinion…
I would love to take some classes and learn the tricks of the trade. Things that I do not know about the DSLR. Tricks to achieve things that I haven’t figured out would be awesome. Everyone needs a hobby or 2…or in my case an unlimited amount. Photography can be enjoyed by anyone. Morgan has won first place medals for some of her photos. I bought her a digital camera for Christmas, so I expect to see her skill grow even more.
Capturing a persons emotion on film is so amazing…even if it is fake, like Emma pictured above. She isn’t sad, or in turmoil. She is just an excellent actress and makes for a fun photography subject. This is her Kurt Cobain look. I think she pulls off the tortured soul look quite well.
Recently I found out about a program called SOAR!. I wanted to enter badly, but the timing with the Holidays prevented me from getting it submitted in time. SOAR! is a new scholarship that is going to help three women take their dream of building a photography business come true. How rad is that? I would love to have that opportunity. Maybe next year?
The winners will be announced on January 1st. The Women that win will receive camera gear from Sony, websites and blogs from SmugMug, designed by Chopping Block. They will also receive software from Adobe, ShootQ, and SHOWIT that will make their life easier. The recipients will be mentored by industry leaders as well as Me Ra Koh’s business coaches from Wisdom Connection. How awesome for those that do win this Scholarship!
Me Ra Koh is on a mission to help women fulfill their photography dreams. She had a dream of helping and was able (with help from her mentors and friends) to pull it off. This is how SOAR! began. Even those of us that are not in the running to win can still benefit from those that do win. The winners will be required to document their year long journey on the SOAR! website through blog posts, videos, images, teleconferences and more. So we can follow along and maybe learn along with them.
I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central on behalf of the SOAR! Scholarship and Me Ra Koh Photography. In addition, I received an Amazon gift certificate to thank me for taking the time to participate.
