Expressive Tech: Things Your Smartphone Case Can Reveal About You

05.30.2017 by Girl on Fire // Leave a Comment

Everyone carries a smartphone around with them these days, and many people use a smartphone case to protect their devices. You might use one yourself. But rather than just being used for protective purposes, a smartphone case can actually reveal quite a lot about the owner too.

Here are some of the things that various types of cases can reveal.

smartphone case

Durable Cases

Durable smartphone cases are very popular. They range from simple tough cases that provide a bit more protection than standard cases to rugged phone cases that you can take hiking, swimming, etc.

Someone who uses a tough case is normally showing that they are an outdoors type of person, and perhaps they enjoy hiking or even an extreme sport. Or they might simply be showing that they are practically minded and they want to look after their phone as best they can.

Plain Case

You can find these plain cases all over the place, like in your nearest phone shop or at online stores like RS Components. They are simple, understated, and simply tell the world that the owner wants to protect their phone but sees it as a practical consideration.

They are often used by people who are not concerned about using accessories, and they are usually understated and want to be more discreet when using their phones while still being stylish.

Customized Cases

Customized cases are essentially plain standard cases that are then decorated by the owner, perhaps with stickers or other elements. These people are often creative types who like to show their creative personality with their phones, and they might be craft enthusiasts. Or they might simply be budget conscious.

Fan Cases

Fan cases are phone cases that are based on fans of a sports team, pop singer, TV program, or anything else that displays something the owner of the phone cares passionately about. These are self-explanatory, and they give the world a clear insight into the owner’s hobbies and interests.

Invisible Cases

The invisible case is a case that does not look like it’s there. Some phone cases are purposely designed to be thin and discreet so it’s not immediately apparent that the phone has a case at all, and some are even transparent.

Owners of these are normally quite practically minded. They don’t want any added bulk, but they still want to protect their phones. They might also want to show off their phone rather than a case.

Practical Cases

There are various types of practical cases, some of which double up as wallets and others that contain chargers. These show that the owner is a practical type of person rather than being worried so much by the appearance of their phone.

Bright, Bold, & Fun Cases

Then there are the phone cases that scream out to get noticed by using bold colors, interesting features, and even animal shapes. Owners of these cases are often keen to show off their fun personalities, and they might even use their phone cases as conversation starters.

What Does Your Case Say About You?

These are some of the main personality types reflected in smartphone cases. Of course, there is one final option which is to have no case at all. These might be used by people who want to show their phone to the world, who are relaxed enough to not worry about scratches, or who enjoy the design of their phone without any additions and don’t want to hide it.

What about you? What does your smartphone case tell the world about your personality?
