This giveaway has ended. The winner was comment #7!
If you have been reading my blog for very long you know I have been having a slew of problems for about a year now. Part of that problem has seriously destroyed any little part of me that may have been good at keeping it all together and getting things done.
I have always been a hard worker and a multitasker…but now I’m crashing and burning. Add in the kids and all hell has broke loose. Well not really, things are still going good with my family…it’s just I need more help from the kids.
I need them to clean up their messes and keep their stuff organized! I also need everything organized to make my days run more smoothly. I’ve been trying to do it all, but I realize that I can’t and I shouldn’t do it all.
What I needed was the tools and ideas to help us all get it right and to build our own groove…
Simple Organized Sanity
Simple Organized Sanity is a Professional Organization Company whose mission is to help moms and families save time, money, and energy be helping them become more organized.
We do not ask for perfection from moms and families, instead we believe in helping them find REAL WORLD solutions that will work even despite the chaos of their homes.
I love that this company is run by moms to help other moms, like me. Christie Love knows what it’s like to be pulled in a million different directions at once. She is a mom and knows where the rest of us are coming from when we discuss our issues with her.
Christie sent me a questionnaire to fill out before our coaching call so that she could come up with ideas to help me. Everyone has different home life situations and there is no one size fits all solution. When it was time for our call Christie had several ideas that fit my family perfectly. After our call she sent me a few emails with her ideas and even some extra things we didn’t discuss on the phone.
She knew I was a blogger of course, she knew that I homeschooled 3 girls and she knew I was ill. From this information she came up with some great helpful ideas for me.
One problem area I had was Emma and Lauren’s room. They share a room and a lot of toys. My problem was that at the end of the day it would be so messy that it would be too much for the kids and they were overwhelmed. I too would be overwhelmed and do a mad dash clean up before bed. I wanted them to be able to take care of this area themselves.
Christie suggested that instead of having one clean up a day that I enforced two 15 minute cleanups a day so that the kids could keep a handle on it. She also suggested that I organize everything for them. When the kids play with one sort of toy such as dress up, then they pull out that one container. When they are done it all goes back in and must be put up before any other toy containers were removed from the closet. I took this information and tackled it as my first task.
I can honestly say that my girls room is clean and organized and I have not had to lift a finger to help. They were happy to have it sectioned out and I believe it made it easier for them to play. They have kept up with the rule of only removing one container of toys at a time. These kids are 5 and 3! I used a label maker to label each container as well. I have been doing this anyhow for Lauren since she is learning to read and it helps her with new words.
Another thing that was killing my days was trying to find things…paper things. Bills were being misplaced because I wanted them out where I could find them. Uh, yea…that doesn’t work so well because you know what happens? Paper attracts paper and the paper was a breeding ground that grew and grew until it attacked me and made me cry.
Now I have a file box. Each file is labeled with my handy dandy label maker and it is all organized! I have an inbox on my desk and all paper items (no matter what they are) go into the inbox. I then take some time every couple of days to go through the inbox to figure out what needs to be done with each paper. If it is a bill I mark it on my calendar and then place it in a file for bills. If it is one of the many pieces or artwork produced by my children, I place that in a folder for the artist that created it. I pretty much have a folder for everything now! I still need to make the tickler file she suggested…but I am taking this step by step. You can watch a video on their blog on setting up your own tickler file. I think every mom could use this!
Another thing I am still working on is to make one place for all the school stuff. This includes a lot of stuff. Things you wouldn’t consider school is school for us. I have some shelves in the laundry room that are basically like a pantry. I am going to clear those out and set his up for our school items. All will be labeled and organized by who needs to reach it. Other things that require my supervision will be up higher. I plan to keep up with Christie’s suggestions and I will blog about it with photos as I complete each task.
Christie was so nice to talk to on the phone. My communication skills are not all that great since I have gotten sick. The biggest thing is my memory sucks and I never know what day is going to be a good day. Christie designed a to do list and sent it to me. She made it so I can list tasks that need to be completed by good days and bad days. This way if I wake up and feel great, well I can do things on my good day list. If I wake up and feel bad, then I just work on my bad day list. I never thought of splitting it up that way!
Simple Organized Sanity also has Printable Products for sale! You can find just about anything you need to get yourself more organized over there!
Speaking to someone like Christie can really help you get things into perspective and give you some great and useful ideas! Simple things that all add up to a big difference! I’ll be making more posts about my progress with photos of what I have done. Christie came along at just the right time for me and one of my lucky readers as well!

My two youngest (10 and 6) share a room and I have such a hard time getting them to keep their room clean. My kitchen isn’t very organized either! I think the only room in my house that is organized is our school room… at least I have that going for me! 🙂
