Sensitive Skin Beauty Tips

11.02.2017 by Girl on Fire // Leave a Comment

Sensitive skin can be pretty difficult to deal with; even the slightest brush of a ‘bad’ chemical can have your skin swelling up, looking redder than Rudolph’s nose and stinging like nothing else – which can make it quite difficult when it comes to creating a flawless complexion, especially if products are involved.

Luckily, there are some things that can make the whole process easier:

Always test Products

When you have sensitive skin, you should never, ever simply buy a product and apply it to the whole of your face, doing so could well end in disaster. Instead, apply a small amount of the product you’re interested in on a small patch of your face and wait for 24 hours. If you have no adverse reaction, it’s probably safe to use it as directed.

Know What Sets You Off

When you have sensitive skin, it really pays to know what the ingredients in makeup are and which ones are more likely to harm your skin. It isn’t always so easy to do this, not only because lots of ingredients have several names, and because isolating which ingredient specifically harmed you can be difficult, but it is worth trying nonetheless.

Always be Prepared

If you have sensitive skin, then it is very important that you prep your skin before adding any makeup to it. Using a moisturizer that is fragrance-free, and which has also been certified as suitable for use on sensitive skin is the best way to do this.

It’s also a good idea to choose a product that includes at least SPF 30 protection because the sun can make sensitive skin worse. Apply your moisturizer directly after showering to lock in as much moisture as possible.

Use Mineral Makeup

If you want your skin to glow, then you undoubtedly need to use mineral makeup,  which you can find out more about at     https://soundbodylife.com/best-all-natural-mineral-makeup-brands/. Why? Because mineral makeup is natural and that means that is less likely to irritate your skin and make it red instead of flawlessly porcelain (for example) as you would like.

A lot of people are scared of using mineral makeup because they think it will make the skin look flaky or chalky, but providing you apply it with a high-quality makeup brush, using circular motions to apply it evenly, you should not have any trouble.

Use Natural Products

If your skin is really sensitive, you might find that any commercially available makeup irritates you and if that is the case, then it’s probably a good idea to go completely natural. GFor example, you can use coconut oil to moisturize and very effectively cleanses makeup and here is a [pretty great recipe for foundation https://wellnessmama.com/27328/liquid-foundation-recipe/. That being said, you will still need to test everything before use because even some natural products can cause issues for some people.

Use Thermal Spring Water

La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water is a fantastic product, which when applied over makeup will help it to stay in place longer. More importantly than that, it will also work to protect, soften and even moisturized the skin, which is exactly what you need when you have sensitive skin that needs more TLC than the average person.

Change Your Products regularly.

When you have sensitive skin, it is even more important that you take the time to change your makeup products and brushes regularly. If you don’t, all manner of bacteria could build up, which when used on your skin could cause you some pain. It is also important that you store your makeup and beauty products in a cool, dry place as directed, for similar reasons. Sure, it might cost you more, but it’ll be worth it if it means you’re able to take better care of your skin.

Go Naked

Of course, the easiest way to avoid making your sensitive skin feel worse is by going without makeup at all. This is a scary prospect for a lot of women, but I think more of us should embrace our flaws, and providing you drink a lot of water, eat a healthy diet and exfoliate (using a mixture of brown sugar and oil) and moisturize (using whatever works for you best) regularly, chances are you’ll look pretty fresh-faced without the makeup anyway.

I hope this has helped you to realize how important it is to take proper care of sensitive skin – you should never put beauty before your health – and that it has also shown you how you can still use makeup (should you wish to do so when you have sensitive skin.
