Ruby100lbsI just finished watching the first season of Ruby on DVD.  Ruby is a woman that lives in Savannah, Georgia and has struggled with her weight since she was a child. She is now morbidly obese. Today, she weighs over 400 pounds and quite honestly, it’s killing her.

Ruby was Recently diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes. The doctor flat out told her that she has to lose the weight if she wants to live. The show chronicles what may be her last chance to take off hundreds of pounds in an attempt to save her own life.

The Style Network has pulled together an expert team to help Ruby do it. She now has a trainer, nutritionist, a therapist, and a physician.

Ruby is a very pretty woman with an awesome personality. It’s easy to like her and to want to watch her succeed.

She has a bunch of awesome friends that are there to help her and not sugarcoat it.  I am hooked on Ruby and watching her journey. She lost 100 lbs in this first season!

    I have lost 21 lbs and I want to lose 30 more, medication helped to add the weight and also the fact that I quit smoking too.

    My goal is to lose 20 pounds (I’ve lost about 7 over the past month or two). I’ve been trying to watch what I eat (and use smaller portion sizes) and I’ve been walking 2 miles each day.

    I love Ruby, she is such a smart, classy, typical strong southern woman. Recently I was hit with some major health issues that have forced me to make drastic changes to my lifestyle and eating habits. There was no choice, I had to make the changes. But if Ruby can do it so can I.

    When I was diagnosed with breast cancer 6 years ago, my doctor sai, “Of course, you know obesity can lead to breast cancer.” No, I did not know that! Fine time to tell me! I had a lumpectomy, chemo and radiation. I lost 65 pounds during chemo (Not tasting food, all food making you nauseous and not having the energy to lift a fork – not a recommended weight-loss method!) When I got my sense of taste back, I was determined not to regain it. I have lost another 40 pounds, for a total so far of 105. I’ve never admitted, even to myself, what my ultimate goal is (too depressing), prefering to think in baby steps. I’m 10 away from my next goal, 15 from the next goal after that, and 25 from the goal after that. I probably really need to lose at least 60 more pounds. I’m doing well on the exercising part – at the gym for Boot Camp and Zumba at least 5 times a week, and trainer twice a week. I’m also trying to get walking and running in there. (I’ve signed up for a MUd Run later this month!) My biggest problem is the dieting part of it – I do so love food. Sure, baby carrots and grape tomatoes are okay, but linguini alfredo with mushrooms and truffle oil and osobuco or ANYTHING chocolate call to me so much more! I just keep reminding myself “CHEMO SUCKS! I NEVER WANT TO GO THROUGH THAT AGAIN!”

    Oh! I have seen a few of her show & all I can say is YOU GO RUBY!
    She is such a trooper & doing so well. She is such an inspiration.
    I love when she had her designer friend help her redo her bedroom.
    She got a fresh start & a new bed for her new self!
    Sure she was reluctant to let go of the old but once it was done she embraced it all with tears of happiness.
    I cried with her!
