Remember when I had the 19 day headache? Well during the ER visit, I asked the PA about a lump on my stomach. It had been there for months and was causing me quite a bit of pain.
She said it was a cyst and that there was really no reason to remove it other than cosmetic. I told her it hurt, she said it shouldn’t. That being said, I chalked the pain up to being from my RSD.
The pain got much worse and I would have to keep it covered. It was near the site of many scars and was situated right where the waistline of my pants would rest.
Then just recently, it opened…burst..ruptured.
The pain was fierce. A burning like acid eating through my skin. Stabbing pains, throbbing pains. Other spots opened up as well and it was weeping and oozing.
Sorry, I know it’s gross. But this is another lesson about waiting too long to get medical care. I seem to be a repeat offender.
I made an appointment with the PA at my family doctors office. She looked and said that this was not a cyst at all. It as an abscess! I had an abscess for nearly a year!
She also informed me that I most definitely had a staph infection. She took a culture and now I wait to hear whether or not it is MRSA.
I get small sores and lesions all over. My left foot is in bad shape. My stomach near my scars is another battlefield…my upper arms, my legs..everywhere. One of those sores then became infected. Staph is everywhere.
It’s a sneaky vicious violent critter hanging out…just waiting to take up residence in your cuts, bug bites, scratches and other wounds.
MRSA scares me. When I worked in the tattoo shops, MRSA was a constant worry.
I had contracted staph once before…in my eyes. I almost lost my vision because I waited to long to get medical treatment.
If there is something abnormal on your body, something that isn’t right…no matter how small..any changes, please have your doctor check it out. Don’t put yourself on the back burner like I have so (very) many times.
I always use the excuse of I need to take care of my family, well my dumb ass has finally realized that in order to take care of them, I have got to take better care of me.

Ouch. That sounds incredibly painful. MRSA really scares me. My grandmother had a MRSA infection and within days she lost her eyesight and had to have one of her eyes removed. It was really scary.
Holy cow, I’m glad you finally went in even if it was late. I hope it’s not MRSA!!! You’re right that this is a good reminder to get things checked out sooner rather than later.
my father in law was in the hospital recently with a staph infection. he’ll be out of commission for a few months because he too waited too long to get to the doctors.
Gosh girl you can not catch a break can you!? I really hope you don’t have MRSA and they fix you up soon with this staph infection mess!
Wow, that is very scary! I am one that always wants to “wait and see” before getting medical treatment. I need to be more on top of it so I can be around to care for my kiddos.
Yikes! Definitely better safe than sorry. I hope you feel better soon and TAKE GOOD CARE OF YOU!
Oh gosh, that sounds soooo painful! It is so important to take care of yourself, so you can take care of your family. I totally believe that too! HUGS and feel better.
Wow Brandy that sounds extremely painful and scary! I do hope your result come back negative for MRSA. I’m so glad you realize the importance of taking care of yourself. I learned that lesson a few years back and have now made it my mission to help moms everywhere embrace that. We tend to fell so selfish taking care of our needs when in fact it’s the least selfish to do… When we thrive we have so much more to give! I pray you regain your health very quickly!
I hope you’re feeling better soon! Staph sounds absolutely awful.
Oh no, you poor thing! I hope that you are recovering well. I’m the same way though, I never worry about myself – just everyone else.
That just sounds scary. I do have a few things to get checked on my body. I just always put things off thinking that it’ll be ok. Sigh…time to make an appt with the dermatologist. Hoping you get good test results!
I’m like that too. I’ll put aside my well being for my families, and fight through my sickness til I can’t anymore. Making it much worse for myself.
Those are wise words that most parents need to remember (myself included).
wow! how scary! Staph is no joke- I nearly died from it was well- all from an ingrown hair.
Very scary!! I am the exact same way. Always pushing my medical needs off to deal with everyone else.
I had a cyst burst once too (when I was PG) and it was totally suckage! Ill tell ya, i need to go to the dentist and get cleaned. BLAH.
I am the same darn way. I am currently seeing some Drs for issues that I shouldn’t have waited on. i hope you get good news and it isnt MRSA!
