RSD and Roller Derby #RollerDerby #RSDSucks

12.05.2012 by Girl on Fire // 11 Comments

Yes, you read that right! As person living with RSD, I am considered “physically handicapped”.  But I refuse to let it handicap my life.  This mama that can barely write her name is skating with the CTH division at House of Quad.  So you are probably wondering what CTH means.   CTH is Crash Test Hunnies and it is where you learn Roller Derby.  Right now I am in group one.  I am basically learning to be better on my skates, which includes endurance, how to fall, how to stop, etc.  I have a lot of work to do and then I will move up to the next level in CTH.  After you complete CTH you can try out to be drafted to a team, ref, or even help coach.

I’m serious…I can do anything I put my mind to.  While the pain will be intense, I think it will all still be very good for me.  Sitting on the couch is painful, so might as well do something fun if I hurt anyhow.  The benefits of the intense exercise may help with my pain as well.

Mind over matter.  Have I mentioned I am off of all Neuro meds?  I am still without any sort of pain management as well.  I will keep you all updated via my blog on what it’s like to play an intense contact sport while suffering from one of the worst chronic pan diseases known to man.  Wish me luck?

I have to say that this is the most encouraging group of people I have EVER met in my life!  There are people of all types up there.  People that have overcome amazing things.  Very inspiring!

Also, if there is anyone that would like to participate in sponsorship in my new endeavor (anything from gear to homeopathic pain treatments…I have massage covered), please email me via the contact form and let’s talk about how we can work together.

I broke my leg in 2012 in a practice. I now have RSD. I am secretively looking to skate again soon. Any knowledge of skates with RSD in their leg that have returned to skating? You are an inspiration!

I am sorry that you have RSD 🙁 Mine is full body and I find that exercise is the BEST medicine for me. I am currently off of all meds and just rely on Roller Derby practice and any gym time I can get in. I feel best when I eat a RAW foods diet. I am not a bouter, so have not done any contact. I am not sure if I could handle it, but my goal is to try. I think you should get back out there and try to skate. It may work wonders for you! There are times that I miss months at a time from practice, that is why I am still in group one. BUT I am still happy that I am out there trying and it really does lower my pain levels. Can I friend you on Facebook???
