Small Victories! #RollerDerby #RSDSucks

02.26.2013 by Girl on Fire // 6 Comments

Small victories are huge to me!  Last night at CTH (Crash Test Hunnies) roller derby practice I made some small accomplishments that are very awesome ones for me.

First of all, I did Faster Fastest again and did pretty well.  I also was able to continue practice after that endurance building drill.  A full 2 hours of practice.  If I can do this stuff so can you!  I have muscle wasting from my RSD and severe intense pain that does not go away.  But you know what?  Roller Derby makes me feel good!  It feels good to do something that people never thought I would be able to do.  It feels good to have pain for a legitimate reason.  Sounds crazy right?

2 hours of practice.  I was able to do this a few months back when I was consistently attending and skating extra days at the rink.  Then months of no skating and I was unable to go 2 hours.  I am soooo happy!

I also did something last night that I have been super fearful of.  A suicide stop!  YAY!!  Now, I have by no means perfected it.  I just did it.  Now I need to practice, practice and practice some more.

Small victories!  Don’t let anyone tell you that you can not do something.  Also, don’t let your life hold you back.  We all have issues.

Roller Derby is amazing.  Filled with amazing supportive women and men from all walks of life.  Trust me, you’ll fit in.

Congrats on making through the 2hours! I cannot imagine. I wish more folks with less major issues could try something to help themselves. Roll on kiddo!
Going to do my neck/back exercises now and suffer the good pain, right along with you.

What a fab uplifting post to read! It’s so true, you really can do anything you want to! I had muscle waste in my left leg for two years after dislocating my knee and I moaned like a baby that I couldn’t do anything. Once I got my head in gear, I learned to walk up the stairs again and that seemed like a triumph so well done!!! xx
