I don’t think that I let you all know this fantastic news yet! Now the entire female household over here is skating roller derby! First it was just Morgan, then I joined, then Emma and now Lauren as well!
The family that skates together, stays together….
I am so proud of my girls! Roller Derby is a fantastic athletic sport that established great confidence in myself and my girls. Now, I am only in training and most likely will never be a bouting skater due to my illness….but, I am not letting my illness stop me from experiencing life the way I want to experience it. Who knows, maybe one day I will be a ref, or some sort of trainer for the kids.
I have met some wonderful people and made friends with people that totally accept me and my weirdness. They also encourage me. When I am embarrassed because I can’t do something or don’t make it through a full practice, they don’t belittle me or make me feel like I have failed. No, they totally build me up, talk about the positives and point out that I am doing more than others because I am getting out there and I am trying, even if all I accomplished was putting my gear on and taking a few laps. CRPS/RSD is not going to hold me back.
Morgan had a birthday on the 14th, she turned 15! She saved up from working babysitting jobs and combined that with her birthday money and bought herself a great new pair of skates. I see my kids continuing on with Roller Derby for a very long time…who knows, maybe you will see one of them in the Olympics!
Oh and here are my pretty red skates, just in case you hadn’t seen them yet…

I am kinda jealous, I used to roller blade…so much so that I was so good at it I was jumping over things. It is a great, fun way to be active and doing it as a family is awesome – good for you!
