I just sent my kids to clean their room. The response? Total meltdown of overwhelmed children, which leads to a total meltdown from myself. The stuff. So. Much. Stuff. So what is the solution? I mean the holidays are coming…Christmas! Christmas means MORE stuff. I’ve been looking at the option of renting vs. buying new toys. Pley is a company that rents toys.
Let’s talk about this. Here are my top 5 reasons for renting vs. buying new toys.
This conversation has been brought to you by Pley. All opinions are my own. This post does contain affiliate links.
The big one….BOREDOM. Kids get bored. They get a new toy, they play with it non stop, until one day they just don’t pick it up anymore. The novelty wore off. It was cool and exciting and then it was boring. Now you have a toy that probably cost a small fortune laying untouched amongst a plethora of other toys that are boring. When you rent toys, they are there long enough for the excitement of something new, but not long enough to become boring!
Clutter, I think we can all agree that most kids have too much clutter and that clutter is usually too many toys. By renting, you can keep less toys on hand. Less toys, means less stuff to clutter up rooms with.
Money is an important factor here. A lot of toys are so expensive. My girls love legos, but dang those specialized lego sets are really pricey! With renting we can try out all kinds of new toys without spending a fortune on something that will eventually no longer be played with.
Focus. When we have too many choices in life, it can be hard to have focus. We don’t know what to do because there is soooo much to choose from. So you take away some of the choices and it is easier to focus. Weeding out too many toy choices will bring you a more content child. They will no longer be overwelmed and that is a good thing!
Trying new things. Renting gives you an opprotunity to help your child to explore more things. Things they may think they are not interested in, but once given the chance they may love! Some girls may think legos are just for boys and not have a clue how awesomely fun it is to build with legos! You can really explore without commitment here.
I seriously JUST read that recent studies show that families will spend on average $1000 per child per year on toys. Wow…that seems completely insane to me! Another plus about renting toys? It is envioronmently friendly.
So back to Pley, they have over 400 different LEGO sets! They also have K’NEX; as well aspopular robotic/educational toys: Sphero BB-8 App-Enabled Droids and Wonder Workshop’s Dash & Dot Robots. Pley is always looking out for the best toys, so they stock the latest and greatest toys on the market. So what do you think? Buy or rent?
