If you are around my age, you may remember a film called “Pump up the Volume”. Yes? I loved that movie, but wouldn’t let my kids see it…not yet anyways…
Radio Rebel reminds me of a clean kid version of that film, well sorta. Ok, so it’s totally different. There is no “pirate radio“, it starts off as a podcast. Things are easier in this day and age.
Radio Rebel is a Disney Channel Original Movie and is now available on DVD! Based on the book Shrinking Violet by Danielle Joseph.
Radio Rebel stars Debby Ryan (The Suite Life on Deck and Jessie) as a shy girl named Tara Adams. Behind the mic though, she is outgoing and speaks her mind. Tara starts off with a podcast and is picked up by a radio station. No one knows who she is and everyone is wanting to find out, just who is that girl behind the mic?
The movie has a lot of positivity in it, especially for young girls. A message of be yourself, celebrate you is given throughout the movie. As a mom of 3 girls, this is important to me. I want my girls to be full of confidence and always stand up for what they believe in. This movie preaches that in a good way.
The girls loved the movie and have already watched it several times. In fact, Emma told me she wanted to watch it again today.
My girls favorite part of the movie? “We Got the Beat”
This is definitely a film I am happy to let me kids watch…again…and again…and again!
I received the DVD mentioned above to facilitate this review. No compensation was received and all opinions are my own.
