Simple Sight Savers: Easy Everyday Ways to Protect Your Eyes
Protecting your eyes is so important, and there are many ways that you can ensure you look after them properly. By looking after your eyes, you can avoid many problems in the future relating to poor eyesight, and all it takes is a few simple steps.
Go for Regular Eye Exams
The most important thing that you can do is to make sure you get your eyes checked every two years. Visit an optometrist for a comprehensive eye exam, and they will test your eyesight and spot any issues that could become problems in the future. Often, by catching the warnings signs early, potential problems can be avoided, including serious problems that can affect your quality of life.
Use Protective Eyewear for Certain Activities
Another simple step to take is to make sure you always protect your eyes when necessary. For example, when you carry out some DIY in the home, or when you chop wood in the garden, make sure you wear protective goggles. It only takes a tiny splinter of wood to cause serious damage to your eyes, so never take the risk.
Protect Your Eyes from the Sun
When the sun is shining, you can help to protect your eyes by wearing a pair of good quality sunglasses. The sun produces harmful UV light, but sunglasses can prevent this light from reaching your eyes. Just make sure that you only use high-quality sunglasses, otherwise you may be hurting your eyes even more.
Have Regular Health Checks
Looking after your overall health is also an important measure when protecting your sight. Health problems like diabetes and high blood pressure can lead to eye problems if they are not treated properly, so again it is much better to catch these early and take the necessary steps to improve your health.

Smoking leads to many health problems, including eyes problems. The risk of conditions such as cataracts increases if you smoke, which is another reason to quit the habit for good.
Avoid Staring at the Screen for Too Long
We are surrounded by screens these days, but try not to stare at them for too long. Keep a safe distance of an arm’s length away rather than holding them too close, and always take regular breaks to focus your eyes on something else.
