It’s that time of year folks! It’s officially time to plan your family get-togethers and reunions! Planning is important and needs to be done well in advance.

One thing that you need is a location! If you have a big yard, that’s a perfect place to start. Free to use! If not, then you’ll need to locate a space to use. Sometimes this means you’ll have to rent a location.
Me? Well, I would just plan for everyone to meet at a lake park area and reserve a pavilion. The pavilions are covered areas that usually have picnic tables underneath for sitting and eating.

A lot of parks will not charge you for this, however, sometimes there is a rental fee to make sure it is reserved for you. It’s never been anything outrageous in price though.
You’ll also need to assign some people to help you out. You don’t want to take on something like this on your own.
Assign people to:
- Send invitations
- Buy decorations and table coverings
- Decorate the area on the day of the event
- Tell people what to bring: Paper plates, cups, plasticware, chips, dips, drinks, ice, what kind of food, etc
- Garbage bags for clean-up
- Activities and games
If you delegate it out, you’ll have a less stressful time as opposed to taking it all on yourself. Trust me, ask for help!
Food is a major part of any gathering! You’ll need snacks and treats, but you really need to focus on some great food!

I’m all about the cookout with some add-ons! My husband takes control of the grill for some hamburgers, hotdogs, steaks, chicken, and even some grilled vegetables.
Maybe ask other family members to bring their favorite side dish or dessert. The more the better, because this party is going to go all day and everyone can take home some leftovers.

But, if you want to dress it up into a cooler event, order some special foods that you don’t normally have.
Now for most people, that choice is going to be seafood! For me, I’m allergic to shellfish so I can’t mess with it at all. But I know this is a favorite for many people.
So order it! You can totally order the food to be delivered. You don’t even have to prepare it, which is perfect for my allergenic self! I’m not about to die today!

I have some family that absolutely love stone crabs. Since I don’t make this stuff at home, this is a perfect opportunity to have it delivered and ready for them to enjoy.
Another idea is to ask everyone to take photos, you don’t usually need to ask these days though. Then make a shared dropbox or google images folder where everyone can load the images to share with each other!
As a photographer, photos are so important! You could even hire a photographer to be there. Candidly shooting throughout the day and even get everyone together for a great extended family photo!
That would be a treasure for pretty much everyone right? Whatever you do, make it fun!
