So, I have this chronic pain disorder. Somedays are good, somedays are bad. But, every morning is rough. It pretty much kills me to get out of the bed in the mornings. If you deal with this, I would love to hear what you do to elevate some of the pain.
I had wondered if an orthopedic pillow would help at all. I am sure it would if this was due to an injury. But being fibromyalgia, I’m not all that sure. I guess I won’t know until I try and at this point I’m willing to try just about anything. There are all sorts of things for back pain treatment, but what about all-over pain treatment?
If it didn’t work for the pain, I bet I would still get a better nights sleep just having a nice pillow that kept my body aligned better. They pillows looks so much more supportive than the ones I have now. I do get neck stiffness as well from an injury I got when I was a kid. Getting rid of some of the pain would be better than getting rid of none! I don’t take any meds for the pain and I would like to continue to avoid that. I just want to be able to function better and have good mornings again.
If you suffer from Chronic Pain I would love to hear your thoughts!

Now you have posted a post that is really dear to me. You see i used to be a Hospice Nurse until one day a patient hurt my back. Now i’m disable and unable to work due to nerve damage in my lower back. I suffer from Chronic back pain all day everyday. Sometimes I feel like an old lady and most of the time I feel i’m just here….but I’m grateful to be alive I just wish i had my full mobility. I sometimes use pillows in and out of bed to help me relax more. I take the pillows during the day to raise my leg…this helps to take the pressure off my back while I sit. At night i use them in my bed at the foot of the bed to help release pressure as well. I do try and still excersie not much though because i don’t want to irritate my body any more then I have to. I don’t do any heavy lifting at all and my hubby does all my shopping. Some medicine helps me sometimes but i have learn to keep a positive attitude about it all. Do you know that stress can make matters worse with you back injury. Ok, sorry I could go on and on about this subject. Find you a good support pillow and use it to help release the pressure when sitting and laying down.

I too have fibro… and had a long list of things to add much later… just in my own observations most fibro people usually also have other conditions too… I use several different pillows, and switch them often, as one may work one night or part of a night & then the next nope…. I also alternate between height of the pillow, like one or two.. I have had cervical spine discetomy & fusion and have many more degenerated discs through out my cervical & whole back… so sleep is a precious commodity for us!
I did take sleep meds for a long time & they just did not work after a while, so stopped… I do take a med for muscle spasms & that helps the fibro the most… I have tried a gamut of alternative & herbals too.. along with the dozen or so bottles of lotions & potions… sometimes one works, next time it is another or none.. hit or miss.
some PT helps with massage, and you have to go to someone that has dealt with fibro people… to deep a massage will make you feel worse, usually later.
I liked the warm mosit heat blankets they would wrap you in 1st before hand, was great at relaxing you.. but know I have trouble with temps.. & that alternates.. it is a strange disease for sure.

Well, I have arthritis where my joints get knobby and when the pain is bad it also is nerve and muscle pain, but….I have learned how to control my pain simply. I do a tough up and down hill walk for like 4o 0 something minutes EVERY day and I find not drinking milk and eating wheat for times takes away my inflammation. I use omega 3, magnesium, etc. and experiment with how strick I need to be, but found I must exercise. That is so necessary. If I eat lots of crappy food I get real puffy and inflamed so I do the low carb thing. I get good and can take off from it but must continue to exercise. I need no meds and I look so much younger. Worth a try!
I have fibromyalgia too. I started going to the chiropractor a few months ago, and that’s helped considerably. I’m finding that with my back and neck becoming more aligned, I’m making proper movements and sleeping better. Getting enough and better quality sleep is what’s key for me to not feeling like total crap warmed over. Isn’t it funny how this affects each person who has it differently? I also just heard from a friend that I felt good when I was sick recently with sinus stuff because I was taking Mucinex. Evidently the guiafenesin acts as a muscle relaxant. Not that I’d recommend ti for every day or that you go out and get sinus issues.

I don’t suffer from chronic back pain, but I have had chronic migraines since I was 9 which usually induces general body pain as well (constant pain tends to do that). I’ve found that exercise every day has been the best remedy. I now only have 3-4 migraines each month on top of reducing my constant low-level chronic headache. Also, the exercise tends to make me sleep better so I wake up with a little more energy and that usually is enough to get me going instead of lying around for another 1 or 2 hours till I have to move from hunger. It has also drastically reduced the tightness in my muscles which also contribute to my pain. I’m not a medical expert, nor do I know the extent of your physical condition, but as for my chronic pain, this has been the best remedy I’ve found so far.

You might try taking a combination of a calcium tablet that also has magnesium and vitamin D in it at night before going to bed. Some people also do well with a low dose of Melatonin to help them relax more when they sleep. It might be worth talking with a Naturopathic doctor if any are available where you live. I’m sure a correct pillow would help some.
Yet, as one who lives with chronic pain 24/7 and a great deal of it is in my neck and upper to mid right side of my back, I can tell you, which you probably already know is to do what you can do when the pain is more tolerable and do less when you can’t push through the pain.
I think Doctor’s like to throw the word Fibromyalgia around too much instead of really finding the true cause of the pain.
Exercise seems to be helping the most!
Ok, this probably sounds wonky but I would seriously say, check out http://www.nucca.org. I just started seeing an upper cervical chiropractor and well, I am in love. I have literally been told every single possibility of what is causing what and anything that my body is doing after having my first adjustment, he told me were possible side effects. I have not had a migraine since last Saturday-I’ve gotten headaches but not the oh my god I can’t take this pain. And I truly believe that as time goes by, it will get even better.

My mom has fibro. She said that getting a memory foam topper for her bed really helped her get better sleep. She also has a million pillows that she rotates between, depending on how she is feeling at the moment. I think that proper support in a bed and pillow are very important for her to sleep at all. Also, she felt a great deal better when she was seeing a chiropractor. I love my chiro in Denton and would be happy to pass the info onto you, if you want. I’m not sure if she specializes in fibro at all, but I can ask her. Additionally, I second the suggestion to see a Naturopathic doctor. I’m not sure of all the supplements my mom takes, but I know there are several that have really helped her. She also did an elimination diet to find her trigger foods. Cutting those out of her diet limited her severe flair ups. I’m sure you already know most of this stuff, but I thought I would pass on the info anyway, just in case…
